Hwang Ui Jo is a South Korean football player.

He was selected by Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma in the 2013 K League 1 draft. He played for the team between 2013 and 2017, scoring 35 goals in 139 appearances. During the 2015 season, he managed to score 15 goals and was chosen as part of the South Korean national team. Seongnam was relegated at the end of the 2016 season, and he left the club in June 2017 when he signed a two-year contract with J1 League club Gamba Osaka. He saved the Japanese club from relegation and was named the team's player of the year during the 2018 season. Overall, he scored 23 goals in 60 appearances for the club.

He then moved to Europe as he signed a deal with French club Bordeaux in 2019. He was shifted from his natural position as a striker to a winger for almost a year and could not score as much. When the coach changed, he finally returned to his original position and scored 29 goals in 94 appearances before leaving at the end of the 2022 season.
He was then signed by British club Nottingham Forest but never played for the team as he was sent on a series of loans to Greece's Olympiacos (2022-2023), South Korea's FC Seoul (2023), UK's Norwich City (2023-2024), and Türkiye's Alanyaspor (2024). He scored only 8 goals in 43 appearances combined.

He finally signed a one-year contract with Alanyaspor for the 2024 season. Internationally, he has played for his country at the senior level since 2015 and has scored 19 goals in 62 appearances that include the Asian Games, Asian Cups and the 2020 Summer Olympics.

However, he became involved in controversy when, in June 2023, an anonymous IG user posted a video of him and a woman having sex without the woman's knowledge that she was being filmed. The user claimed to be his ex-girlfriend and accused him of gaslighting her and other women. He denied the allegations, and police investigations traced the IP address to his own house. The culprit ended up being his own sister-in-law, who claimed she posted those videos in revenge after how "ungrateful" he had been to his brother and her for all the support he got during his career. She was later sentenced to three years in prison for blackmail and other charges related to sex crimes.

But, at the same time, police began investigating if the sex videos were actually taped without the woman's consent. He was suspended from the national team in November 2023, and in June 2024, he was indicted on two charges related to alleged breaches of South Korea’s Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes.

In February 2025, he was found not guilty in one case but guilty in another and was sentenced to a one-year suspended prison term. It is unclear if his current club will continue to hire him as a result of this sentence.
