Real name : Hugh Walker, half British and half Japanese. After graduating from Saint Joseph College (Yokohama), he worked for Shinshin Kinema and Nikkatsu. During World War II, he was enlisted in Japanese army, until the end of the war because he was a British citizen. After the war, he worked for the US military GHQ and CID and worked as a censor, and then ran "Premier Picture Production", specializing in sports news and sports documentaries, in Kyobashi, Tokyo.

He was active as an actor from 1935 to 1956.

His son is actor Osamu Okawa (大川修).
