In 1948, he joined the Japanese Communist Party. During his early membership, he was involved in the party’s movement to restore its honor. He was also present at the scene during the Bloody May Day incident on May 1, 1952.
In 1951, he graduated from the English Department of the First Faculty of Letters at Waseda University. He joined the editorial staff of the Kastori magazine "Liberal," which went bankrupt after two years. Over the next three years, he worked for several publishers and editorial departments, including Iwaya Shoten's "Houseki." He then joined the Daiei Screenwriters Training Institute, where he was mentored by Ikenami Shotaro.
Abe made his debut as a screenwriter for television with the 1959 drama "Papa Okite Choudai" (NTV).
