  • Native name: 中原淳一
  • Also Known as: なかはら じゅんいち
  • Nationality: Japanese
  • Gender: Male
  • Born: February 16, 1913
  • Died: April 19, 1983
Nakahara Junichi was a Japanese painter, fashion designer, editor, illustrator, and doll maker born in Shiratori Honmachi, Okawa, Kagawa, Japan. In 1915, his family moved to Funabamachi, Tokushima, due to his father's job. He later relocated several times, moving to Yumimachi, Tokushima, in 1920, then to Hiroshima in 1924, and finally to Tokyo in 1925.

Nakahara showed early talent in drawing and sculpture, and at 18, a French-style doll he made led to his first solo exhibition at a Tokyo department store. This success allowed him to work as an illustrator for the magazine "Shojo no Tomo", where he created covers and frontispieces. However, his Western-influenced illustrations faced criticism from the military during the Second Sino-Japanese War, and he stepped down as the magazine's exclusive artist in 1940.

Nakahara married Ashihara Kuniko, a former Takarazuka Revue star, in 1940, and they had four children: Fuyo, Shuichi, Soji, and Sumire. His eldest son became a painter, and his grandson Rino Kako is an actor and voice actor. His niece, Nakahara Misao, is a chanson singer.

After World War II, Nakahara focused on encouraging women through art and launched several magazines, including "Soleil" (1946), "Himawari" (1947), "Junior Soleil" (1954), and "Onna no Heya" (1970). He continued his artistic activities while battling illness, suffering multiple heart attacks and strokes from 1958 onwards. Despite frequent hospitalizations, he remained active until his death on April 19, 1983, at the age of 70.

Nakahara's career spanned various forms of artistic expression, including founding his shop, "Himawari", in 1940, where he sold original goods.
