Rao Hui is a Chinese screenwriter and associate professor in the Film and Television Department at the Central Academy of Drama (中央戏剧学院), where he teaches screenwriting, genre film, directing studies, and audiovisual language.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Literature from the Chinese Department at Renmin University of China (中国人民大学) in 1993, and a Master’s degree in Film Studies from the Theory Division of the Beijing Film Academy (北京电影学院) in 1999. That same year, he joined the faculty of the Central Academy of Drama. In 2011, he completed a doctoral dissertation titled The Narrative of “Heroes” in Chinese Cinema Since 1990 and was awarded a Doctor of Literature in Drama and Traditional Chinese Opera Studies from the same institution.
