Yang Heng, born in Jishou City, Hunan, is a Chinese screenwriter and director. He graduated from the Photography School of Beijing Film Academy in 2001.

In 2006, Yang Heng won the "New Currents Award" at the 11th South Korea Busan International Film Festival for his film "Betel Nut", and the "Prix Nouveau Regard Award" at the 28th Nantes Three Continents International Film Festival in France in 2006. For the same movie, he also received the "FIRPRESCI Winner" award at the 31st Hong Kong International Film Festival in 2007. In 2010, "Sun Spots" won the Gold Award of the "Asian Digital Competition" at the Hong Kong International Film Festival. In 2014, his work "Lake August" won the "Jury Award" of the China Independent Film Exhibition. In 2017, "Ghost in the Mountains" was shortlisted for the panorama section of the 67th Berlin International Film Festival.
