Kato Seiichi

His father was a Han scholar from the Kumamoto domain, but he died shortly after Seiichi's birth, and Seiichi was adopted by the Kato family.
Kato moved to Tokyo and enrolled in the English Department of Waseda University. While attending school, he studied under Tsubouchi Shoyo, and in 1909, became the first student of the Theater Research Institute of the Literary Society established by Tsubouchi. In March 1911, he graduated from the same school, and in May of the same year, he made his stage debut playing the role of Polonius in a full-length performance of William Shakespeare's tragedy "Hamlet".
He married actress Mitsui Mitsuko, and on October 31, 1919, his eldest daughter, Kato Michiko, was born.
After the war, he participated in the movie "The Love of the Actress Sumako", which was released on August 16, 1947. He experienced collapse due to gastric ulcer and cerebral hemorrhage, and although his activity was suppressed, he appeared in television movies and the like.
He died at the age of 74 on August 28, 1963. Edit Biography
