In 1942, he won the Asahi Prize for Culture for "Kaigun" which depicts one of the "Kyugunjin" who attacked Pearl Harbor.
He received the Japan Art Academy Prize in 1963 and became a member of the Japan Art Academy the following year. He was awarded the Order of Culture in 1969 and became a Person of Cultural Merit. From 1966 until his death, he supervised Hayakawa Publishing's theater magazine "Higeki Kigeki".
Shishi died at the age of 77 at his home in Akasaka on December 13th, 1969, due to cerebral hemorrhage. Edit Biography
