Matsukawa Tsutomu is a former Japanese actor born in Tokyo, Japan. He graduated from the Faculty of Law at Keio University (慶應義塾大学). During high school, he worked part-time as a model. In 1962, he was scouted by a Shochiku (松竹) employee and made his acting debut in the 1963 film Utae Wakatotachi (歌え若人達). In his third year of university, he decided to pursue a career in entertainment and joined the Actor's Studio (俳優座養成所) as a 16th-term student. After graduating in 1967, he joined the Roman Theatre (浪曼劇場) led by author and poet Mishima Yukio (三島由紀夫) and made his stage debut in Sangenshoku (三原色). He was later affiliated with Office C&P (オフィスC&P).
