In 1990, he won the Best Actor Award at the 10th China Film Golden Roster Award for his successful portrayal of Deng Xiao Ping's image in the "Baise Uprising". Lu became famous in one fell swoop. In 1995, he was transferred to the Bay Film Studio of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.
As a special actor who plays Deng Xiao Ping, Lu has played the image in more than 40 film and TV works for more than 40 years. He has won several awards for the role, including the 9th China Film Huabiao Award for Outstanding Actor 2002, and the 26th Popular Film Hundred Flowers Award for Best Actor 2003. In 2005, China Film Centennial was awarded the honorary title of "Outstanding Film Artist" by the Ministry of Personnel and the State Administration of Radio and Television. He also won the Art Contribution Award of the General Political Department, the Sichuan Top Ten Actor Award, and the National Government Expert Allowance. In November 2017, he won the Public Welfare Character Award at the Golden Begonia Awards ceremony of the 5th Asian Micro Film Festival.
Besides being the first special actor to play Deng Xiao Ping, Lu is also a special actor of Sun Yat Sen, playing Mr. Sun in films such as "Zhan Tian You" and "Whampoa Soldiers".
In addition to the great success of his special actor role, Lu's calligraphy achievements are also very high.
