Watching again the EP16 carriage/cliff scene it doesn't make sense. First XJY and her mother I think shared a look and most importantly QL and YY gave up fast on stopping the carriage.

The main couple feels more like companionship not romance. Yes, they don't have to be passionate but a few sweet moments with hugs and kisses wouldn't hurt. Princess Lingyun's death - stupid. For someone as capable as her she should have been on guard.
