All Ye Li has is a coping mechanism. She acts like Lishan Academy scholars are still alive because if she acknowledged it then and there she'd have fallen apart and woudn't be able to exact revenge for them and fulfill the promise she made to her mother. I think her mentors/friends have been gone for years hence the monkey attacks and her bite marks already healed with only scars.
About Qing Shuang - maybe she died protecting her but based on QS looking younger I'd say she's been gone as long as YL's mentors. Now Ye Li is seeing QS who is always worried and crying and the things they talk about are relevent to the situation YL is in so I think YL is procesing her feelings through their talks with QS being vulnerable and YL in the role of the protector, again so she doesn't fall apart. It's like when you are in danger and being alone makes it harder to muster the courage but being with someone else you want to protect them so the chances of survival are better.
Lastly - call me crazy but I think Queen Dowager cares a lot for Lishan Academy and YL and her mother so she would have done everything in her power to protect them. I can't picture her as the villain for now.

EP30: CXQ insisted on playing the hero and delayed GJZ's rescue. As soon as he knew the location he sould've told CYY. Did he think he could do better?? Someone said CXQ love is selfish and that proves it again.
