Unearthing Timeless Aroma: 'Scent of Time' – The Must See Drama of 2023

"Scent of Time" surpassed all of my expectations and proved to be an exceptional drama. From the very first episode to the last, it unfolded as a well-crafted and beautifully executed masterpiece. The show cleverly dropped hints throughout the series, keeping us engaged, and ensuring we wouldn't be disappointed when the truth was revealed that it was all just a dream.

I wholeheartedly give this a solid 10/10. This drama is not only my favorite of the year, but it has also earned a special place in my heart as one of my all-time favorites. Its compelling storyline, exceptional acting, and remarkable production quality make it a must-watch for anyone who appreciates top-notch storytelling and entertainment.

I couldn't recommend this drama more highly; it's a true gem in the C-drama Land.

A Political Masterpiece

One of the best dramas of the year! If you're unsure about watching it, just go ahead and watch at least two episodes—you won't be disappointed. This drama was incredibly well done, with acting, pacing, and scheming by the actors all on point.

If you have even a slight interest in politics, it's a feast for you. Don't miss it! The references to the Bible are just analogies, nothing more (and I'm saying this as a non-Christian). Some people are overreacting to these references, but the characters aren't trying to convert anyone. They are simply drawing comparisons to explain political scenarios. This is one of the best dramas about today's world and modern politics.

My rating: 9.5/10

P.S. The ending was perfect (though I won't say it's happy, sad, or neutral, as none of those options apply here).

Mature Noona Romance without undermining Passion.

This drama has the best story and execution. Childish and at the same time mature couple "falling into" love with each other. The transition from the Master-pupil relationship to a Skinship cute love relationship is smooth and enjoyable. The only thing one may find difficult to accept in this drama is the age gap but if you are reading this review means you are not old school and you are quite pragmatic. So, that should not be a concern.

Pros:

+ Great Cinematography.
+ Acting of both ML and FL is top-notch. I knew FL will do great acting since I have watched her other dramas. But ML just nailed it. When he was crying I felt so real.
+ Amazing Chemistry starting from the First episode.
+ No Break-Up and No long misunderstandings.
+ Happy Ending.
+ Inspiration and motivation to not give up was something I didn't expect to get out of this drama before watching.

Cons:
- None

Underwhelming Plot, Impressive ML and Annoying FL

After watching the drama, it is safe to say that it had its ups and downs. The Male Lead's acting was quite impressive, while the Female Lead's portrayal was annoying and immature throughout the majority of the drama. However, her acting did improve slightly in the last four episodes.

Unfortunately, the story itself was not very interesting, and the FL was often portrayed as a fool. Despite this, the production quality was good, and the visual experience was enjoyable.

All things considered, this drama was average, with some good and bad elements. While the ML's acting was a definite highlight, the FL's portrayal could have been better, and the story itself could have been more engaging. If you are looking for a drama with good visuals and solid acting from the ML, but are not overly concerned about the plot, then this drama might be worth checking out.

Much better than "Something In the Rain"

I Binge-watched this drama. This drama was unexpectedly interesting!!!

In my opinion, "Love the way You Are" is a lot better compared to "Something in the Rain" (Korean drama) for the below-mentioned reasons.

In SITR FL's Mother role was very annoying. That's why I gave a low rating for that drama. However, In "Love the way You Are" instead of an annoying mother there is a very understanding and supportive mother character.

It didn't take much time for leads to convince the family about their relationship. Initially, the FL's father was hesitant about the FL & ML's relationship for obvious reasons. But that got resolved quicker than the time I thought it will take.

In SITR, FL was a habitual liar.
Here, both FL and ML don't hide anything between them. They face everything head-on.

In SITR, FL's ex was a jerk. In LTWYA, he is not that worst except in that accident part.

Appreciation-worthy cinematography. Good OST background music.

Good chemistry between leads. Cute-looking ML.

SITR drama focuses too much on the work environment than on the relationship between leads.
"Love the way you are" more focusses on the relationship and love story between Leads without undermining the work-related story.

Other positives of LTWYA:
- More Comedy Compare to SITR.
- No Breakup.
- No misunderstanding between leads.
- No awkwardness between leads.
- HAPPY ENDING.

Some negatives:
• Less romance compared to SITR.
• I didn't like that streaming girl at all she is solely responsible for my one less rating for this drama.

Completed this drama in within two day. Here is my opinion, The lead couple had decent chemistry, but it didn't quite match the level of chemistry between the FL and her deskmate (YZH) or even the biker, who had limited screen time.

Personally, I found the second couple's story more Interesting and I hope the class monitor guy (JSW) gets more lead opportunities in the future.

In terms of grading (as it is youth drama set in a school/University)
- Romance: A
- Story: D
- Acting: C
- Chemistry: B

Result: PASSED with C+ Grade.

At the end, the fantasy element disappeared.

[Spoilers ahead] The drama started off well with a compelling story and amazing acting from the actors. A hardworking servant (ML) who simply follows conglomerate family orders without questioning them.

In a turn of event, murder attempt was made against the ML who went to withdraw money from foreign account. that is when the fantasy kicked in and the same employee(ML) was born as the "Youngest Son of the Conglomerate".

In an attempt to take revenge for his death ML decided to take over("buy") the Sunyang Group and punish whoever tried to murder him.

The Story progressed well until the 15th episode. But in the Last episode everything changed. The Fantasy element vanished into thin air. ML wakes up as an same old, hardworking employee who blindly follows orders and decides to fight for justice.

A number of loopholes exist in the story.

1. The money was donated to the public before Do Jun died. Then why was the money still available for the ML to withdraw as an employee of Sonyoung?
2. Was ML just imagining being the youngest grandson of a conglomerate? So where is fantasy?
3. "Survivor of car accident" is more believable than "survivor of head shots and falling off cliffs to sea". (is that was the Fantasy? not sure 😊)

Pros:

+ Amazing cinematography and acting.
+ The drama reminds many of significant moments in history such as Korea's football victory, Y2K, the terrorist attack on the US, and the incident involving the IMF.
+ Except for the last episode, good story and execution.
+ Do Jun and His Grandfather Duo was Great.
+ Grandfather's acting was top notch and some scenes were emotional.

Cons
- The romance was not well suited to the storyline.
- FL was boring and sometimes annoying.
- The ending was not satisfactory.
- Title "Reborn Rich" didn't make any sense after completing drama.

Binge-Worthy Bliss

I initially hesitated to watch this drama due to some negative comments, but my boredom led me to give it a chance. To my delight, I ended up binge-watching all 12 episodes.

There was so much to appreciate in this drama, although the only downside was how abruptly they concluded Ha-Na's cute love story. However, it left room for hope that their feelings might rekindle in the end, which was a positive note.

The introduction of the new character, the counter, felt somewhat annoying and didn't significantly contribute to the storyline. Nevertheless, I appreciate that the drama managed to keep all its characters alive, which is a refreshing change.

I'd rate it 8.5/10. 👍

A Perfect Blend of Romance and Action

This drama was an absolute gem💎 to watch. The story is engaging, the leads are incredible, and the emotional connection between them makes it truly unforgettable.

What I loved most was the trust and communication between the leads. It’s rare to see such a mature dynamic in dramas like this. The female lead’s unwavering faith in the male lead, despite his dangerous profession, stood out to me.

FL acceptance of who ML was and his honesty about his job early on set the tone for a relationship that felt authentic and strong. Also, can we talk about their chemistry? The leads were stunning and their moments together were mesmerizing.

I also appreciated how the FL wasn’t written as some clueless or helpless character, which is often the case in dramas. She was smart and grounded, which made her all the more relatable. Add to that a solid storyline, and you’ve got a drama that keeps you invested from start to finish.

That said, there were a couple of things I felt could have been better. The ML’s birth secret, which was revealed towards the end of Episode 17, should have come earlier in the series. It would’ve added more depth and drama at the right time. Also, the earlier episodes could have given us more romantic moments between the leads—I couldn’t get enough of their connection, and a bit more romance in the beginning would’ve made it even better.

Overall, though, this was one of the best Thai dramas I’ve ever seen. It’s got a great mix of action, romance, and heartfelt moments. Totally worth the watch. 9.5/10 💜
