Any similar recommendations (thriller/crime/scifi) with romantic subplot? I don't really like it when romance…
@trailblaze hi there. Just watched an old drama My heroic husband. slight romance (only in the initial episodes) thereafter its too good. Romance is not the focus I havent watched Joy of life before this drama. . It hooked me directly with the first episode. Many may not like the ML since he is not the typical beautiful chinese man. He is relatively normal compared to other actors but i think it is what makes this shows original. The ML is really talented and is doing a great job. I have laughed so much with every episode. Its happy ending left on with a cliffhanger (anticipating a season 2!!). But the show is witty, humorous, Intelligent drama that gets me laughing and tearing with the story.
A journey to Love 2023 - I will start with a spoiler ** Sad ending*** BUT by my interpretation is that this series is indeed a journey to love for our main lead, Ruyi. I also think it’s still a happy ending, at least for the main leads and many other people (netizens of both An and Wu). It is a MUST watch!
THIS is a badass Female Lead! The casting of Liu Yuning and Liu Shishi in the leading roles is brilliant. Amazing series! This has been one of the best series that I have watched in terms of acting, writing, cinematography and strong characters, never a dull moment . The actors and actresses in this series were amazing especially Liu Yu Ning and He Lan Dou. I laughed, I raged, I fell inlove, I cried, and bawled some more :) What an experience The Journey to Love drama was. What a beautiful drama about love, friendship, loyalty, revenge and power. Their acting of joy, grief, obsession, love, self-confidence, insecurity, you name it, was so so so well done. It was palpable. Knowing the end was sad did not deter me from watching till the end. Ignore social media comments, this drama is worth the journey. This story gets high marks due to its mostly tight storytelling, outstanding cast, great character development, and strong portrayal of women. Totally worth it!!

Best Choice Ever (2024) Its an FL centric drama, where the world revolves around her family (read: mother) and her work . On work front , she's a brilliant person who outshines when given the opportunities. She had ample amount of hurdles along her path , but they only made her stronger and unstoppable. Story: ITS NOT A ROMCOM. If you're here for romance, you might be disappointed. Slow burn.But, if you wanna watch a family drama , THIS IS IT. (You would relate to the story much more, if you happen to be Asian (specially south/east)) Acting : I absolutely loved Kai and Yang zi. All of the cast for that matter have done a really good job. If you're up for a family drama, with just enough romance to make you smile time to time , you should definitely give this a go. Its beautiful in terms of filial love, paternal love & sibiling's affection portrayed in this drama. I feel it touches upon almost every relatonship one encounters in their life time . Its simply satisfying. A good watch. Best Choice Ever is a simple story about hardwork and dedication and family ties. Once the Main leads get together no break up. Good chemistry, great understanding and sweet romance between the leads.
Yong An Dream (2024) Romantic, Fun & Feel Good Both main couples’ romances were enjoyable, but I had a soft spot for the elder sister and Zhou Shian due to the extra angst and sweetness. I enjoyed the plot, I thought the mystery was good and kept you curious through the whole story. The couples had good chemistry and it’s a nice romantic drama. It’s definitely worth watching. No break up once they get together.
In Blossom - No break up cdrama. investigation, suspense, romance, and martial arts. On all lists (surrounded by xianxia), but it is a detective drama/love story set in ancient China (very good), with martial arts, detective mystery scenes and sweet romance with the protagonist couple "Beauty and ugliness, noble and low, regardless of the shape." It was Pan Yue's heart who recognized Yang Caiwei first than Pan Yue's eyes, and he loved her from beginning to end. Nice romance, not like steamy kisses or bed scenes, but enough to show the chemistry between the leads. Happy ending for the main leads.
Lost you forever S1 -It is a dark, beautiful, suspenseful and, poignant tale of intrigue, treachery and longing. This drama is immersive with its air of mystery, the shiver of danger, a whisper of regret and a sense of profound loss and longing that saturates every scene. It is a story about love but it is not a love story. WHAT A CAST. No over the top acting. ( Special mention for kids). Yangzi killed it with her acting skills here. THE MOST CAPTIVATING ACTING PERFORMANCE EVER. In this drama, Yang Zi delivers a courageous performance, perfectly cross dressing in a believable male role. Never afraid to look normal, not pretty in many scenes, BRAVO! The male leads surrounding her are each of then unique and are giving our FL different emotional and physical experiences, you have the brother, the 'puppy' kind of love offering warmth, the challenger abusive potential lover... Needless to say, I cannot wait for part 2. The build-up, the slow burn, everything just runs very smoothly. Nothing drags on. We already have some very iconic scenes in the drama and we aren’t even halfway done yet. A lot of watchers of this drama has a preference with who they want the FL to end up with, but I, at the end of this season still could not choose between the three men 😊. It is tagged as reverse harem, lets keep it like this hahaha.
Blue birthday (2021) - Dear time-travel lovers : this web drama is for you!! I hope y'all give this web drama a chance. It is definitely on top of its game - with all its flaws. Loved the cast but the acting from the actors & actresses is a working progress. It's not the best but not bad either as their acting is watchable for me (rookie actors). In conclusion, if you want to watch a sort, simple drama about time travel with a well-written plot, cute romance, great friendships, then watch and enjoy ‘Blue birthday’. You won’t be disappointed.
The Secret Romantic Guesthouse (2023) -Despite being 18 episodes long and a bit slow at times, there is enough drama, mystery and some very cute romantic moments that keep you hooked. It’s a “fusion sageuk” and I loved it. The main romance.- they met - made a promise and it led them to become a couple years later and nothing and nobody would come between them. Cliché but cute. The FL and ML both supported each other always till the end Secret Romantic Guesthouse’s highlight is its’ tight pacing, consistent writing, great characters, and plenty of lovable tropes! All leads and support characters have equal footing, so you can root for whoever you want to emotionally invest in. Palace politics are not dull; No overdose of ministers discussions! Good ending..all had their happy ending.
I Know I Love You (2023)- Loved the ML! Let me start by saying I loved the feel of this drama (think its a remake or spin off of Kdrama One spring night). The actors were quite amusing and the ML's acting was superb. the chemistry between the leads were good. I would recommend watching. Rewatchable or not depends on every individual. It baffles me that there are so many negative comments against the ML. He was warm, caring, supportive, considerate, gentle, and smart. His character is appealing because he shows strength and conviction. Once the main leads make up their mind to be together they don't break up - even though there are scenes with family interference, ex-es drama, even when they argue or rather FL gets angry they still dont break up. Happy ending with a hint of a marriage in futre
Story of Kunning Palace (2023) - OMG!! totally worth the 38 episodes. The characters are well written, the romance is believable, and there's also an endgame/political setup that is emotional and worth cheering for. - the plot is fabulous. The acting, dialogue delivery it was all beyond my expectations. The chemistry between all the leads is no joke. HOLD ON TO YOUR IMPERIAL HATS, DRAMA ENTHUSIASTS!!! Because "Story of Kunning Palace" is the kind of show that's more addictive than a caffeine IV drip. romance wise i love how the second and third male leads have chemistry with the FL and get screentime together, sometimes it's conflicting to choose who to root for. i like how none of the relationships are overly toxic, they all have each other's best interests in mind. also it's amazing when FL and ML are both smart, there's always tension in the air romantic or not <3. I just wanted to say that I love this drama and I hope that everyone gives this drama a chance. Wow... completely mesmerised.

The Story of Park's Marriage Contract (2023) - A beautiful story, with humor, love and a whirlwind of emotions. - Male and female leads in perfect chemistry and in perfect harmony - Supporting casts and crews doing their excellent roles - Beautiful storyline - more fantasy like but beautiful Beautiful acting, beautiful emotions with trace of comedy and funny part and amazing chemistry between the leaders. I love this drama even though the comments are not so great, but it is okay to have own opinions. Some people might think some aspects of the show was rushed, but given that it’s only 12 episodes, I think they tried to make it as concise as possible. It’s one of those shows where you really have to pay attention because they do a lot of “show then tell (explain),” which is the mystery element of the show and the main driver of the story. No break up after they commit to each other only separation is of time slip. Happy ending (spoiler here - a bit rushed i would have like the ending to be happy a bit longer than that)
