Low Budget, Raw Talent, But There Was Actually Some Meat on the Bone
Night Tales surprised me more than I expected. It had an actual story with some meat on the bone, rather than just serving up a pretty cast, revenge and dramatic staring contests with nothing underneath.
The plot itself was interesting and had enough intrigue to keep things moving, even though I did skip forward here and there. The drama still managed to pull me back because I wanted to know how everything would play out. That is always a good sign. If I skip ahead and still enjoy what I am watching, then there is clearly something there.
The leads did take a little getting used to. They felt very new as main leads, or perhaps just not quite seasoned enough yet for the weight of carrying the whole drama. At times, you could feel the lack of experience, especially in scenes that needed more emotional depth or stronger presence. But to their credit, they gradually grew on me. By the end, I was more comfortable with them and could see the potential.
The production, however, did look rather low budget. Some scenes had that unmistakable feeling of everyone doing their best with whatever was left in the production wallet. Still, the story itself helped carry the drama and stopped it from feeling completely cheap.
Night Tales is not polished enough to stand beside the bigger budget productions, and the leads still have room to grow, but it has potential. It has a decent story, enjoyable characters and enough intrigue to keep you watching even if you occasionally press the fast forward button.
