That emperor just loves ruining women’s lives. He just takes whatever he wants traps them in the palace and…
Just think about it some more - Chinese emperors had hundreds if not thousands of concubines back in the day. Some were visited just once in their life, but then usually couldn't leave the palace for life unless some profitable arrangement was made. And each had to have a house and servants on the palace grounds. Thousands of people were living and working there. FL and her bureau has lots of work to do there as it's a city within a city.
So it's not that the emperor was a lech, it was just customary back then. They could afford it and laws were different for women back in the day, for many women and their families to be the emperor's concubine or consort was a life's dream laden with opportunities. But many others were forced to, of course. And ALL women working and living on the palace grounds were the emperor's women, not just noble ladies.
One thing that has lowkey stood out to me, I love FL's sense of humor, her like sarcastic/witty humor is pretty…
I've rarely seen a character that I like so many things about. Writers did a very good job with her. Too bad ML is so wooden, he only starts to show glimpses of emotion when under influence of alcohol or drugs.
Our lead couple is simply too smart for everyone else—so it’s easier to call it “magic” or say Xiao Huai…
I like FL here a lot, such a cool character. And her willing to put herself at risk to test harmful stuff or her mentor for lulz reminds me a lot about FL in The Apothecary Diaries anime/manga (also a story about the Imperial palace affairs). Yea, let's scar my arm or drink that deadly poison to see what's gonna happen, lol.
Ok. I think they're entertaining enough, with twists leading to completely different directions from the inital assumptions. But I feel this drama's more about the sad women's fates involved in those crimes and their plight and lack of rights in general in that era.
You gotta use uBlock or somesuch, these days it's basically a must for a browser. If you can't open it, then use VPN. Other than that, you can sub Disney+, this drama should be there.
it’s very common to see ratings like this in cdramas on mdl. The rating keeps fluctuating until the drama is…
Yea, I know people have very specific preferences here and ratings can't be trusted. I know what they are for kdramas, but not really for cdramas, I'm out of the loop here. This drama has good production and plot, scenes are coherently filmed (which is often a problem in c-media), actors are pretty good too. So what is it? Not enough hype? Not a romance drama? Actors are unpopular?

Too bad you can't trust the ratings here whatsoever. It makes it hard to find anything decent to watch.
