For me it was a relief that they didn't have a baby. Ye Li is not ready psychologically for pregnancy and postpartum,…
Btw, childbirth's been known to greatly help with PTSD, so they really should have added a kid or two. You can look it up. Likely something both hormonal and psychological.
And I don't really like some people here (sometimes scriptwriters included) confusing FL with a child. She's a grown woman with mental health issues, but they shouldn't define or confine her. They did show things here and there in the last couple of episodes how to get her out of that state, but ML really should taken care of her better in longer period, instead of being gone for half a year. It's like they only have one general left in the whole country, utterly ridiculous.
But it is though, says so in the genre. You don't have to apologize for scriptwriters' shortcomings. People have…
It's not just the lack of kissing scenes. There are several things that were lacking in their romance on a fundamental level. I wrote a review about this drama, explained what was off about it in detail. Won't get over the whole long shebang again in the comments.
Reading your comment, I kinda get the feeling you've mostly watched "idol dramas" rather than "mainstream…
Can't blame that person, we get mostly idol dramas nowadays, that's what people want, so it gets churned out in way bigger quantities. And every other drama still tries to regurgitate Nirvana in Fire tropes.
If only kdramas had bigger budgets for historical dramas though. The only one that had somewhere near same quality…
I agree about talent, so many cdrama actors who seem to have nothing else going for them other than a pretty face (often questionably natural). Most of kdrama actors surprisingly know how to act well, and there are lots of popular ones despite having regular appearance.
For everyone pining for ‘romance ‘ in this drama- this is not a romance drama. It is about two individuals…
But it is though, says so in the genre. You don't have to apologize for scriptwriters' shortcomings. People have the right to downvote this drama for false advertisement.
I was recently watching a historical K-drama, and it struck me why C-dramas sometimes fall short. Many are produced…
If only kdramas had bigger budgets for historical dramas though. The only one that had somewhere near same quality assets was Alchemy of Souls and even that one looked rather cheap compared to some cdramas of that year. Kdramas excel more in modern dramas with creative plots. Cdramas are more like conveyor factory products with regurgitated plots.
I’m at like 1/3 of the drama and kind of wondering whether YeLi even loves Yao in a romantic way. It’s clear…
Very valid points. I thought the same for the longest time, even their forced childhood connection didn't sell it for me. And seeing how they struggled to convincingly show proper romance until the very end, the scriptwriters themselves weren't convinced either.
Another one of those pulled out of thin air nonsense "controversies" written by AI. Also, the actress using a stunt double in combat scenes, especially knowing her bad back history, is a controversy now? Looks like just all those other bs hate incidents targeted at BL.
Wdym he's poor? He's finally got the girl here after several prior dramas, lol. But yea, they gotta do that season…
Well, of course there's gotta be a separation arc, isn't there always, lol? People are just speculating about usual tropes with what little info the S2 synopsis has. In any case, I still have big doubts about og cast returning (mainly because of BL's bad back and agency switch issues) and about S2 being filmed in general, let alone worry about plot speculations. Sad it's years off until we hear anything.
One positive thing I've read about it recently is that S1 managed to attract lots of investors and it paid off. Douban score also is pretty decent compared to more overhyped dramas, so maybe financial side of the project won't be a problem for S2 either. But the leads have to return because of this as well - they were the ones who were the main attractions.
An underrated drama. I hope future audiences will appreciate this masterpiece.Poor WXY... I don't think he'll…

censorship ...its not director that cut the scenes ..its censorship board
People keep saying censorship. But what about other dramas that aired on the same national channel having livelier romance scenes? Are they counting kissing scenes? Did they waste the quota in the middle of this drama so there was no room for one more kiss at the end? Personally, I don't think romance in this drama is even fixable with extra kissing scenes. It just lacks several things on a fundamental level.
Also, I guess I'm way more tolerant to domestic slow paced scenes, my guys just wanted to skip all the "dead fish" romance & domestic scenes. They also pointed out something that made me ponder - this drama looks like it was written by several different people, with how pacing and plot quality fluctuates. FL's trauma and schemes by one person (main plot), boring ass romance by another, side stuff by a third. Was there actually a group of writers here?
I've been rewatching it with my family and knowing the plot there are so many dead end characters' arcs here with worst possible endings - the stupid assassin boy, marquis's sons, ML's merchant friend+Cangbei princess, SFL...So many painfully obvious opportunities to make something great with these characters, but nah.
