He was just scaring Mo Xi as he likes to see her squirm. He knows that MX loves her cousin sister, BFY, so much so he likes to use BFY as an object to torture MX.

Thank goodness, CWD's character has been white washed in this drama. Otherwise, you would have found his character crude if the script writer followed the one in the novel.

The relationships mimick the chaotic period at that time. WJG only wanted a woman and peaceful time to spend his life with. So, no romance was possible for those who were sensible.

BFY too. She is also simple minded and was only hoping for the best outcome out of the chaos they were experiencing.

Except Mo Xi.

She was ambitious and had wanted to escape from her miserable life in that Bai family.

So, she experienced her first romantic feelings; her 1st time intimate love with her first love which she would forever cherish in her memory; and her true love, CWD, whom she had grown to appreciate and love as she grew mature over time.

In the end, she chose to be independent of men and had Xiao Wu with her. Loyalty is the next thing she had gained following the death of CWD. She was content.

So, I conclude Mo Xi is the richest soul in this novel. WJG, CWD, Xiao Xi, BFY and Xiao Wu love her.

Everything happened within one year. The nove; gives a hint that Mo Xi and Xiao Wu will be together one day as both have gone through a lot together.

I actually prefer this period for setting to the Republican period.

Mo Xi without someone loving her is rather sad.

It's a sad ending for MX and CWD's relationship. WJG tried to save CWD and his troops by offering a fair deal. He couldn't stop the siege against CWD because it was a direct order from his superior.

CWD wanted Mo Xi to return to WJG but she refused and sent her son, Xiao Xi to WJG instead. It is the saddest part of the story. The plan was if all survived, CWD, Xiao Wu and MX would go to Shanghai to rebuild their lives. In the end, Xiao Wu and Mo Xi went to the city as planned but without CWD.

CWD dies in the end for saving Mo Xi from the WJG's siege.

I'd rather have the ending where CWD gets rid of Prime Minister Wu Lang and the evil Prince with WJG's help.

But, that's not going to happen.

He's managed by Yu Zheng's studio so he appears on YZ's productions all the time.

Had she not slept with WJG, CWD would have been her true love.

In this drama, CWD is a gentleman. Thank goodness for that.

In the novel, he just can't stop swearing when he speaks. The interaction between MX and CWD is unrefined unlike the ones in the drama more witty.

Hahaha. Sean Sun is definitely acting like a tamed tiger in this drama. He is kind of better at playing characters with authority and power, not a lovesick puppy.

Xiao Wu fell in love with Mo Xi in that novel. They were together building a new life for themselves in Shanghai. That is the best ending for both of them.

Mo Xi will always look after BFY and vice versa although they are not together.

Sean Sun. The pairing is awesome. In the novel, CWD treats MX very well. He loves her although he knows that she is pregnant with WJG's child and is willing to give the boy over to his biological father. In the end, he decides to let MX keep the son but MX decides to give up her son because she wants to remain on CWD's side and refuses to let her son grow up to be a bandit.

In the novel, they separated when CWD captured the city and made a deal with WJG so BFY was released. MX told BFY that she was pregnant with WJG's child.

The current momentum in the drama is rather slow. Although CWD's appearance has made Episodes 13 and 14 better to watch, I find the side stories are rather bland.

I guess the novel focuses on Mo Xi's daily activities so if the drama follows the novel 100%, it will not be as good as the current version is.
