He had no choice but to choose power because he was recalled back to the capital. In the North, he was practically unsupervised by the court but back in the capital, he had to bow to the court. So, it would be better to have power than nothing.

He killed himself knowing that the emperor would not let him live. But, he actually wanted his son to live and regain their Zhuang's reputation. He knew he had to save his son, his only living heir.

Even Zang Hai failed to spot Zi Xin's rationale.

Her son was useless and corrupt to begin with. She blamed everyone except her own son.

The heir positin was never selected which explained why Jiang Xiang was desperate for her son to be chosen because he was a di son, born to the official wife, unlike the Zi Xin, a shu son, born to a concubine.

No kissing scenes. Hate to disappoint.

Probably the best drama in 2025.

Zhang Ziyi's character in this drama is more like a supporting actress, not the main character. She is OK as an actress but I don't always watch her drama because she bores me with her acting.

I think my favourite actress is always Sun Li. No one beats her so far.
