Li Tong Guang and Yang Ying as a copuple is a perfect union. He needs a strong woman like Princess Li to be on his side.
He is actually impressed by her demeanour and in fact smitten every time she is present. She is very patriotic like he himself is. He is a soldier and country's peace and safety are his priorities so when the princess describes her vision to him at their pre-wedding scene, he totally agrees with her.
He is in love with her. She is his true love. In fact, they consumated their marriage as in Episode 39, the Princess says she will remember Yuan Lu in her lifetime when her grandchildren eat sweets and her hair turns grey.
Boss Bai used to be a beggar before he opened up his own business. So, in terms of status, no noble families will even consider him to be a son-in-law except those from the business circle who happened to have a lower social status in the Chinese feudal system.
The pace has so far been decent but the cooking competition has dragged for too long. One episode would have been adequate. This one is nearly two episodes.
We now know that the Second Prince is the culprit behind the poisoning of the emperor and he'll be demoted and sent into exile to the Northern Region where Hua Zhi's male family members are currently settled.
I really enjoyed this series although the ML can be annoying. I blamed it on the director for not directing the character properly.
The ML can be ruthless when he needs to be but when it comes to his love, he is willing to let her do what she wants. Honestly, he isn't a lover material simply because he is an emperor who is destined to be ruthless and selfish.
The ending is rather open to interpretation. We just don't know where she ends up except she says she wants to go travelling by herself.
Luo Jin as Emperor Kangxi was an excellent choice in this drama. I was impressed by LJ's acting in this drama because I found him annoying in Princess Wei Young.
Ming Zhu and Minister Suo's exchange during the former's trial in Kang Xi's presence is one of the best part in the series.
Good acting.
One surprise character in this series that keeps being dropped from Kangxi's history is the deposed Empress Korchin, the first wife of Emperor Shunzi. In this drama, the young emperor was still addressing her as his mother.
Another odd thing is he had another official mother who was also an Empress from the Korchin mongol who happened to be a niece of the deposed Empress. This character never appeared on this series.
Everyone knows it's a comedy in the storyline so I didn't get offended at all watching these scenes.

What's the next story?

We also know 6th Prince has escaped from an assassination but we didn't know if Prince Xian was trying to kill him.
The child might have seen the person who poisoned the Emperor. But, what else did he see which made him suffer from PTSD?
Money is all they care without considering the feelings of their children.
After hurting their children's feelings, they emotionally blackmail their offsprings. How can a mother do that to their own flesh and blood?
If they cannot afford things for themselves, they shouldn't have bred in the first place.
Good acting.

I guess we need to read the novel using the Google Translate.
