WHAT WAS LIFE BEFORE THIS DRAMA

As I'm writing this review I'm overwhelmed with so much emotion, in the span of three days I watched this drama and that's because it is just that amazing. it had be laughing at 3 in the morning and then crying my eyes out I wish I could talk about everything I loved but if I did that this review would be longer than it needs to be so I'll talk about the important details.

Jinfeng is my queen when she's happy I'm happy when she's sad I'm sad I haven't rooted for a character this hard since Zhuohua in The Legend of Zhuohua I love her character with my whole heart, there is not a single thing I would change she is actually perfection to me and I want nothing but the best for her and I wish the show got a second season just so I could have more of her.

Yunzhang my underrated king sure there were moments where I felt he was being unnecessarily hard and cruel on Jinfeng but I always reminded myself that his only 20 so the boy had some growing up to do, and grow up he did, but my god when his funny his hilarious and when his sweet his just the sweetest and I 100% believe that he fell for Jinfeng, I just love that man your honor.

I want to talk about some of the reviews saying the relationship wasn't written well and I have to say that I disagree, sure the romance could have been written better but at the end it's a comedy first romance second, but clearly they did well enough because I found myself looking forward to every scene the leads shared their chemistry was amazing and banter was so entertaining and I know some people were disappointed with the lack of kissing but honestly I don't think their relationship needed it, and again it just goes to show how amazing the chemistry between them was that I didn't mind the lack of a kiss between the leads, they honestly remind me of Bob and Linda from Bob's Burger always fighting because they love each other and want to help their partner grow. This might just be my favorite cdrama couple yet.

I want to talk about so many other thing like how amazing each of the supporting characters were, Shuanzi you are my child and I love you very dearly, but again this review is already pushing it in length but just know that each character was needed and no one could be written out without the story falling flat in some way. And yes I enjoyed the dancing

I love this drama very much and I will probably rewatch it tomorrow because it's just that good, PLEASE WATCH THIS SHOW

I'M A CHANGED WOMEN

I honestly have no words when I started watching this drama I knew there would be some level of enjoyment based of the premise alone but what I got instead was a heartwarming, gut-wrenching, iconic and beautiful love story that had me laughing in one episode and crying in another.

I love each character the lead couple did what they needed to do and did it flawlessly I was rooting for them from start to finish but what I didn't expect was for my heart to be stolen so quickly by the secondary couple they had me in a chokehold and I had no chance of getting out.

If I had one complaint it would be the decision to not have danyin and changheng end up together or at least hint at them trying to "date" each other, they had the chemistry and honestly it felt like unnecessary torture to have them not get a happily ever after and they would be amazing together *in my humble opinion*

Besides the romance aspect the story was really well written too every action the characters took made sense, their development felt natural and I never felt the narrative was bending a character so that the plot could move forward.

There is still so much more I wish to say but that would leave me rambling on for far too long. This show is amazing every episode was meant to be there, the story never felt like it was dragging along and that made me very happy.

GIVE THESE TWO A PROPER SHOW

Once again I'm back and watching this show for these two after Maid's Revenge and nothing else and once again they carried this show with the help of a better, not amazing just better, plot.

I'm not even going to sugarcoat this these two are AMAZING actors who deserves a throught out plot, amazing set design and everything that is needed for their amazing talent to shine throught.

I'm hoping to see them in more things together because chemistry like the two of them had needs to be put on multiple shows.

Give these two their own drama please

When I first watched this film I was fully aware that it was a ad but my god the chemistry between the two nameless leads?!?? Groundbreaking. Also the way this short film was shot I'm going to need more dramas to implement this formula. Just a amazing experience.

? SLIGHT RANT ?

I've also become acutely aware in my short time as a drama watcher of the lack of noona, idk what the term for this is when talking about Chinese series btw, dramas so this film just proves to me that Chinese dramaland needs to wake up and tap into this pot of gold.

We are tired of seeing these young girls end up with older men, and I say this as a fan of a good older man/ younger women romance pairing, let's stir the pot and shake the table and have these older ladies be wooed by younger guys.

CHUCK AND BLAIRE HAD MORE DIGNITY

I sat through Maid's Revenge and enjoyed it so I'm not stranger to toxic romance but Lord have mercy this couple take the cake when it comes to toxicity from start to finish all I could think is " I hope she kills this man" now before I go ham let me give the show it's praise. When the romance is good it's amazing I felt the chemistry between the two leads and genuinely bought into their romance and attraction for each other but on the other hand when their relationship is bad it's diabolical.

Our female lead Gu Meng when from a bad ass martial arts queen to a whimpering baby like I am able to count on my hand how many times she lost her memory and previously even when she loses her memory she was clearly shown to still be able to do martial arts but then the narrative seem to forget it's own rules or wanted to give the male lead the chance to save her, or else what does he have to offer her, and she never does martial arts again and I say all this but she truly is the highlight of the drama and that should tell you where the bar is.

Cheng Ming is that one friend when you tell him "oh I want to break into my ex's house and kidnapped them so they can consider giving our relationship another chance" he will deadass look you in your eyes and tell you "pop off queen" just a enabler.

Zhou Jiao Jiao there one thing I have to say this this character..... you be weak in the knees stand up, STANDUP

Zhou Zi Chen I have nothing to say about him except what I already said to his sister both of them are just sad and the fact that the show made him, unintentionally mind you, the least offensive..... dear god

Xiao Hong Ye..... actually the worst I don't hate characters very easily but the whole time I was watching this show I was praying for his downfall the narrative tried so many times to wash away his sins but after the tea incident he was dead in my eyes there was nothing left to save for his character and every second he wasn't on screen I was able to breathe.

But anyways do watch the show if you love mess like me and justice for Gu Meng you are the only bitch I respect in this house

THAT SENIOR CITIZEN IS MINE

As Mrs. Beyonce would say 10, 10, 10's across the board and I do see that some people hated the second half of the show and even dropped it after episode 25 while the second half is my favorite I appreciate the little girl boss moment the princess gave us towards the end.

The romance was TOP TIER and I love a good age gap relationships so maybe that added on to it for me but I love the ML and FML they carried their show and not a single character was wasted in this show everyone served a purpose and I love that very much.

The OSTs I never skipped it was just that good, the acting was so well done and I was invested in each character's story line they are my babies and I love them.

WATCH THIS SHOW PEOPLE I BEG its really good stick it out till the end it will all be worth it.

DON'T COME INTO THIS SHOW EXPECTING GREATNESS

This Chinese drama is mindless fun so I would advise you when watching this show please do not watch it expecting a amazing story telling and top tier acting it's full of cliches and that's what makes it fun, the first episode had me hooked and the two leads have immaculate chemistry, my only issue I guess would be the ending up other then that this is a good series if you want mindless fun, also the male lead is fine AF ( and I don't mean to sound like a broken clock but he and the female lead's chemistry is absolutely worth the watch if nothing else ). I will definitely be rewatching this drama.

A GUT WRENCHING WATCH

I knew before I even watched this film that this topic is very important but put in the context of the current Chinese beauty standards around things weight and facial features this piece is powerful.

The choice to have Jackie Li as the character we view this world through was brilliant, not only is she a competent actress but her very presence in a industry that favours thin bodies and pale skin constantly puts her in the position to be looked down upon, made the punching bag and her desirability to constantly be questioned just proves to me that she's the only one who could have stepped into this role and clearly showcase the emotions our female character goes through in a way that was real and raw. Just amazing

The other stand out role was Chen Jin as the mother figure and how she tried her very best to let Jackie Li's character see the beauty in herself and yet falls victim to the societal pressures herself and that last scene between her and Jackie was devastating.

I believe everyone should watch this short film it's truly a important piece of art within the current beauty standards that China continues to push on young women.

PURE EXCELLENCE

I binged this show in three days that should tell you how good it is.

One thing I will say before writing the rest of my review, I love how this drama showed one big middle finger the the love triangle trope from jump they never took it seriously and established from the being where all the character's feelings truly lied all the "love triangles" were one sided and sorted out in a way that made sense to me the narrative never felt like it was trying to make me choose the choice was always clear.

The plot of the drama is so refreshing I haven't been watching dramas for all that long but this drama handled the premise of a man being body swapped into a women's body just amazingly, each choice the characters made felt in line to the type of people they are, the bad guys were written really well and overall the drama never dropped in pace for me.

The chemistry between our two leads?!?!?! Lord I'm going to thinking about that episode 9 kiss for a VERY long time jesus christ but besides that the two leads had such a sweet and intense dynamic like off rip they were just entertaining to watch bounce off each other and I was rooting for the to have their happy ending, just a amazing couple and very well written they were each other's pillars and I wish we got more of them.

[ side note : I LOVE that the drama decided to not make her dad a bad guy I've been loving it when drama's allow the father figure who originally seemed to not care about our female lead to then have it revealed that they did care and then for the rest of the drama they support them in everything that they do THANK YOU ]

Court Lady Choi..... This diva, THIS QUEEN deserves her own section, I was always aware of her character as I saw clips of the drama floating around but my God I wasn't ready for how much she stole my heart, every time she was on screen I was dying laughing or crying my tears out, I love all the characters in this drama but she has a special place in my heart, and yes her relationship with the Royal Chef was GOALS.

I read through some reviews that people weren't happy with the ending but I have to disagree everything felt right including her coming back to her body like I didn't watch this expecting that Bong Hwan was going to stay in her body like let's be for real now my girl got her happy ending with the man she loves and that's all I needed.

[ side note : I'm absolutely rooting for Hwa Jin and Prince Yeongpyeong to get their happy ending that was WAY too much angst for my liking ]

This is a amazing drama that is worth the watch.

A ROLLACOASTER RIDE

I'm still heartbroken before I talk about the relationship and my favorite characters I wants to talk about the surface level things. I love the story from start to finish each character served their purposes and I never felt like there was a character that wasn't needed and everyone acted like sane people, sure there were moments where I felt like they were annoying and doing the most but it never felt out of place I understood why they did what they did, again I don't agree but I understand the end left me wanting more but I would say it was a happy ending and my god when this drama to funny it's hilarious and when it's sad it's SOUL CRUSHING like they are never tame with it. Now lets talk about the ships.

Youqin and Yetan : I love them so much from when he was trying to deny his feelings for her to when she was collecting his soul shards and when they were finally on the same page I was invested in them from day one. Yetan was absolutely the highlight of the show despite how cruel people were towards her she was open and loving and my god when she and her dad finally made up?!?!?! heartbreaking. Youqin was everything I needed him to be her loved Yetan with everything in him and was loyal to her to the bitter end just a amazing lead relationship.

Chaofeng and Qingkui : what a amazing second lead couple although their relationship stared off rocking and with lies their feeling for each other was sincere and I loved every scene with them and when shiz hit the fan with them I just knew they would sort it because that's how much they love each other. Qingkui is my girl I love her to the moon and back and I can't think of her death without wanting to cry and you could feel her absence in those last few episode that just goes to show how amazingly she was written and Chaofeng was the tortured man I needed him to be there's a reason why they are my second favorite ship.

Dilangjue and Ziwu : THIS IS MY FAVORITE SHIP like from jump I knew this was going to be favorite ship and I was correct they tick all my boxes and the chemistry was AMAZING they were so sweet and I love how Dilangiue didn't even attempt to prove Yetan wrong when she said that if it was up to Dilangiue him and Ziwu would have three kids like my man wasted no time I love them very much.

I was glad that they decide to make Guhaichao and Sushui and Wudai and Jialouluo canon they were cute and I ate all their interactions up definitely two very underrated ships.

Qingheng and Suzhi : the angst train that never stopped riding like I was rooting for them and I just knew that Suzhi would never be able to get over her anger and grieve and that was going to stop them from reaching their happy ending but love that the ending implied she wasn't gone and was watching over him my headcanon is that she'll eventually return to him and they'll have their happy end.

Man Man, her death broke me and for her to be killed on her and Yetan's soulmate day?!?!?!?!? Somebody get the fxking rope I was balling my eyes out and her death set the tone for the rest of the drama once she was killed I realized that no one was safe and I was rooting for her to get with someone since everyone had someone just evil and cruel I love her and wish got her own happy ending.

I could keep talking about all the other amazing things this drama had to offer ( btw the void tyrant?!?!?!? SMASH SMASH SMASH like how that man is just so casually fine was criminal ) but all I can say is please watch the drama every moment is powerful and beautiful and the characters are loveable and worth rooting for.

MY SOUL HAS BEEN FEED

Firstly my expectations for this series was low I just wanted to watch something I could enjoy but what I didn't expect was to fall in love with so many of the lead characters and that I would root for the main romance so hard.

Before I get into the characters I need to rave about the OST. The two songs Empty City and Fireworks Meet The Sky?!?!? Stream those songs IMMEDIATELY they are too good.

Now our male lead Murong Cang does what he needs to when asked to be a cold enuch but my God when he smiles I feel all the butterflies the way he defends our FML is very pleasing to me and my homegirls and sure there were moments where I wish he would give up the tough guy act but when he was sweet he was truly the sweetest and his actor did a amazing job portraying him.

Our female lead Yunjian, I saw a review calling her dumb and as someone who's watched the show please tell me when she was dumb because from jump my sis was thinking before she acted so I'm going to have to disagree with that, I loved her from jump she was sweet and tried her best always standing up for others and wasn't a pushover and she kissed her ML first and we love a women who knows what she wants, a truly amazing lead I was rooting for her from start to finish.

Princess Xueqing at first I didn't like her, for obvious reasons, but as the drama continued I found myself wanting her to get her own happy ending, her relationship with Yunjian in the latter half was truly heartwarming and she got her happy ending and that was all I needed.

Fugui the icon that you are I know they had to kill his character for plot reasons but that doesn't mean I should accept it, that was a real one from jump and watching him die broke me, he shall be missed.

Please watch this drama it's amazing and really well executed if you want a good time without having to watch 40 minute long episodes.

SKIP ALL LOVE TRIANGLE SCENES FOR A MORE ENJOYABLE WATCH TIME

Let's start off with the positives I feel like the trope of substitute bride was really well executed in this drama I loved the characters I was supposed to like and hated the characters I was supposed to dislike and that's a sign of basic writing abilities. I was invested in all the characters emotions and I was not bored watching the drama at all the story had me hooked from start to finish.

Now for my two main complains, yes I agree with everyone that said the ending was rushed like as I was watching the last episode all I could think was that the drama just needed one more episode and that ending would have been perfect I don't know if Chinese dramaland is very strict about the number of episodes a show must have but yes ONE MORE episode was needed, second, I HATE the love triangle trope and what I wrote in my heading is what I truly feel and I'll go in depth when I talk about the characters but there is a way to do a love triangle correctly and this was not it.

Wen Ye and Shen Ke Yi - My god this drama needs to be the blueprint for how to do age gap relationships correctly, they had excellent kissing scenes and even when they weren't kissing the way they looked at each other?!?!?! CHEMISTRY if they didn't have such amazing chemistry I promise you the drama wouldn't have been nearly as watchable and overall I loved them as characters it was well executed

side note : the half up half down hairstyle did Dylan Kuo no favors and actually aged him but when he wore the hairstyle with all his hair gathered up and the two loose pieces in the front?!?!?!? Lord he never looked better.

Zhou Yu - this character needs to be a modern day study on how a love triangle can ruin a character's chances, just take same character but instead on having him fall in love with our female lead we make him a over protective male friend like that all his scenes becomes more enjoyable and I have less of a need to punch him there is truly nothing wrong with this character it's the trope that's his been forced into that ruins him for me.

ShuangZi - I'm not going to talk about how she got the only man who truly loved her killed for a man who pays her DUST or how it lowkey feels weird that the drama made the choice to have her ROMANICALLY pursue a man she met when he was a grown man and she was child rather I'm going to talk about the route we could have taken to make her character more interesting and tragic, instead of the love triangle bs instead make her story the one of someone torn choosing the man who saved her and who she idolizes and her love for her country but in the end she can't choose and dies at the hand of the man she looks up to BOOM instantly a better story, just a waste of the good character.

Wan Shi wei and Yunying : DEVASTATION I'M NOT OKAY HOW DARE YOU DO THIS TO ME WE COULD HAVE HAD IT ALL LIKE THIS IS TWISTED AND UNFAIR

Nan Bo and Tao - This is my safe space he is character I loved from jump and she's the character who stood ten toes down for our female lead so how am I not supposed to root for them in the end like just a feel good ship.

side note : Tao's actress is the cutest lady I've ever seen how is she to pretty I hope she gets leading roles in the future.

Fu Yi - .......... I don't wanna talk about it. [ silent heartbreak ]

side note : the way some of the scenes were shot and the score choices screamed soap opera to me and I'm obsessed.
