Huh, that's very interesting. Of course you're not wrong for having and stating your opinion; you're completely entitled to that no matter what, maybe I should've clarified that. I assumed that it was an obvious fact but ig when on the internet you should never really assume that people are seeing things from the same place as you are. And I was just clarifying my statement since I was confused as to where you were coming from. Thank you for taking the time to write that explanation, I'm able to more clearly interpret your take.

I guess I was speaking from a more broad perspective and wasn't necessarily speaking from the point of view of solely the BL industry. Just of lesbian representation in general. Of course the BL industry won't ever be the place to give us the most accurate depiction of lesbian relationships; that's unrealistic since BL is their main and potentially sole purpose lol. However I do know that there are a handful of gay and sapphic directors, as well as actors and actresses in this industry that do work on these productions which ultimately gives us a more accurate portrayal of queer relationships. Regardless of what we, as individuals, think of their work.

I wasn't talking from a point of "praising" the tokenism, crumbs or the bare minimum; I was speaking from a functionality standpoint of being realistic with the process of progression since the BL industry is first and foremost about the money. Unfortunately, everything's about the business and the numbers so we can't really blame them for following the money trail. My point was that since GLs are still currently rare, we're at a starting point that will (hopefully) eventually lead us to more nuanced and authentic portrayals of the female gay experience, but that the progression in quality in the entertainment industry is basically impossible to happen overnight; as time is needed for trial and error to "master" these genre of characters.
I look forward to reading your future comments of "aired disappointments", constructive criticism and thoughts on the potential queer characters and I do truly hope that we do eventually come to a time and place that there's enough quality content available for you to eventually feel better about our depiction in this industry! I hope that you're able to find your niche. This is just a starting point as nothing can be built instantly.

Interpretation is entirely based on individual experience so I guess I was just pointing out that due to the vast amount of content available to us today, technically, anything can be framed or seen as "stereotypical". However the fact that it can be seen as stereotypical doesn't diminish the validity that can also be found in said portrayal. And don't worry, I didn't interpret anything you said as saying the potential PaiMuffin ship as wrong, I can see that we're coming from the same side of wanting more quality depictions of GL couplings. As we all do have our biases, I'm sorry to hear that your biases include having been catfished and baited with portrayals of queer women as "thirsty". I know that I'm still young, so maybe I just haven't been as exposed to those harmful portrayals (in asian media) but hopefully the days of those writings are coming to a full close. I'm happy that with the rise of BL and GL stories, even when catered to a certain audience, it is ultimately giving opportunities, platforms and a voice to actual queer creators to be able to tell their stories onscreen.

I know that we have strayed pretty far off of the initial topic of My Dear Gangster Oppa lol but I'm glad that we're having this discussion! It's been insightful to see another perspective.

I can't understand why they did because we KNOW that Jimmy and Sea are stunning without the touch ups

For those ones you might need to check out the copyright laws lol. Inspired foods are one thing but using the Chinzilla branding might get you in some trouble... however having random chinchilla plushies everywhere would totally be more vague and very possible😂😅

I don't think that it's necessarily the fact that she's straightforward, the way she dresses or acts that portrays her as queer. This is a BL where usually the majority of characters are gay so while I'm obviously somewhat biased as a lesbian viewer, it's not necessarily an absurd assumption to make. Stereotypes are also stereotypical for a reason; there usually is some reality based in there (obviously when they're not coming from a harmful, hateful or mean place). There are a lot of lesbian and bi women out there that could probably relate. It's true, some stereotypes eventually get overused and become tiresome especially when toxic but since GL characters and couples are so far and few in-between, I'm not really understanding where you're coming from. I'm confused, maybe if you could explain more I might understand?

But either way, by shipping PaiMuffin, it's wouldn't necessarily be such a stereotypical portrayal character wise because if both women get together, that means they're both sapphic. And both of them are already shown to be so different. There's no real "right way" to be a queer woman, meaning there also isn't really much of a wrong way either.
It's fine to be disappointed but idk personally, I think it's kind of counterproductive to nitpick the types of sapphic representation we're getting when there are still so few women loving women characters out there; it might be doing more harm than good. With the boom of GLs in production that are coming out within the next year, once they become more common like BL dramas then I feel like it'd be more appropriate to expect more nuanced and diverse characters.

A dessert bakery and café. Instead of private karaoke rooms there's different semi-private rooms playing a variety of BLs to watch while eating sweets. The BL community would THRIVE there; dude I think you've just hit the jackpot idea🤭
