Hey, nice to see you again! I just finished this movie, and I was about to write a review before I saw yours.…
So I get that the U.S. is the biggest contributor to the IMF, which naturally gives it more voting power and influence over decisions. That part makes sense. But I still feel like the movie just leans way too hard into being Anti-American, like it kind of unfairly paints the U.S. as the only villain behind the IMF and the financial crisis, when the IMF is made of multiple economies and contributors. Decisions are supposed to be made collectively, but the movie portrays it as though America pulled all the strings and everyone else just followed along. Anyone not educated on the IMF will naturally be led into Anti-American sentiment after watching this. It's not a big deal to me, but I just think that without any definitive conclusion, the movie is politically finger-pointing at the US unnecessarily.
ONLY on MDL is this film anything less than a 9.5/10.7.8/10 my ass! wth is wrong with this place? This film is…
Hey, nice to see you again! I just finished this movie, and I was about to write a review before I saw yours. There's nothing I can even add on to it. I couldn't have said it better how powerful and dominant KHS and YAI play their roles here. I only had a problem with how the writers made this Anti-American for no reason, as I did further research and found no mention of US involvement in the 1997 financial crisis. Other than that, this movie kept me on the edge of my seat the full 2 hours. 10/10 for me as well! The Yoo Ah In streak continues...
Yoo Ah In is truly the chungmuro of his generation. I can't think of any other male actors that would even come close to portraying his characters as naturally well as he does. Every other actor I've seen seems to always be conscious that they're acting, but YAI transforms himself for every movie/drama that it leaves me unable to recognize whether he is even acting or not. Anyways, with legends like YAI and LBH, this movie was bound to become a success. I enjoyed learning about the history of these two incredible real-life players, and I felt very touched and emotional by the end. Well, the Yoo Ah In streak continues...
This is the literal definition of a psychological thriller. The story provides no true evidence for us to come to a conclusion about what exactly happened, but the movie purposely frames everything Ben says into suspicions from Jong Soo's POV. This traps the watcher into Jong Soo's mind, and escaping what Jong Soo believes becomes tough as we're fully led into his mindset and prejudice of Ben. Jong soo ultimately ended up doing the exact thing he criticized Ben for, without having real evidence on whether his theory was correct or not. This movie is definitely not for everyone, but I absolutely loved it.
Blown away by how much I loved this. I tend to dislike age-gap romances, especially ones this big, but this drama will forever hold a special place in my heart. This also isn't really an affair, when you consider how the FL and her husband only have a marriage of convenience for their social benefit. Anyways, I couldn't have pick better actors to kill the challenging roles of the ML and FL like YAI and KHA did with so much great chemistry. This was really well-written, and the casting was impeccable all around. The classical music playing in the background really set the tone for every intense or emotional scene, and even the way scenes are shot really brought the whole drama to life. This follows very real but flawed characters, through very subtly crafted character interactions that give them so much realism, especially the side characters of which I grew to love so many. The relationship between the FL and ML also plays out in such a mature and believable way, but I did almost drop this early in because of how immature the ML seemed at first. However, the drama really picks up quickly with his and the FL's development, and you can see them grow to find a companion in one another that they really need. I especially love the FL's development, with how she becomes fully self-aware by the end. That only after finding that companion in Sung-jae did she realize how wrongly she had been living her life, ruining her life as a teenager and adult with nothing but greed and ambition. That final speech of hers left me feeling very cold, but it couldn't have been said better. Do be prepared for a very bittersweet, but fitting ending. I only wish the final episode could have been stretched more.
Well, my Yoo Ah In streak continues...but I will ALSO be checking out more of Kim Hee Ae's work!
Very few dramas really make 16+ episodes of content work, but there are plenty that do. Highly recommend Chicago…
It's definitely a time sink to test and feel out a new drama, so I can understand what you mean. You shouldn't feel forced to invest time in trying something that doesn't grab your attention. Now that you've mentioned this, I'm not sure I can recommend Chicago Typewriter anymore. I'm a very patient watcher, who doesn't mind spending time really getting invested and interested in a drama and it's characters. I've watched dramas with 20+ episodes, and I've really grown to love them as my all-time favourites, even if there are many parts that I wish were cut out. I do feel Chicago Typewriter is one of the better-paced dramas I've ever watched, but I can't be sure it will appeal to you. I'm not sure you're into sports politics and business, but I will highly recommend Hot Stove League (16 episodes) if you are looking for a longer drama which grabs your attention from Episode 1, with it's fast pacing and extremely tight character and plot writing.
So is he going to continue working in kdrama and movies?
His recent success with The Match has already convinced people to accept him back into the movie industry, at least. I don't think his scandals will affect him as much anymore. Plus, that whole 1 year sentence for drugs is so ridiculous, when SA is such a lesser crime in Korea.
Sixteen freaking hours?Love Yoo but any story that takes that long to tell can't be worth hearing.
Very few dramas really make 16+ episodes of content work, but there are plenty that do. Highly recommend Chicago Typewriter for another of Yoo's works. Not a single episode or moment feels wasted in there. The drama clearly builds up everything it needs to without slowing down, and ends off with a banger finale that the writers, director, and producer clearly planned for from the beginning.
I really regret holding this drama off so long. My god is this intense and hilarious at times. Absolute emotional rollercoaster! The writing is so tight with incredible performances from the actors, and this is all backed by a beautiful OST (I could listen to Satellite 24/7) and cinematography. I really love the main trio so much. I don't think they could have picked better actors or written the characters any better. They have such a great chemistry! ALSO YOO AH IN THE ACTOR YOU ARE! I especially wish YAI would have got an award for his amazing standout double role acting. The differences between his past and present characters are so subtle, but he switches from one to the other so seamlessly that he makes it look incredibly easy. I was a lot more invested in the past, mainly because of how he brings both his characters' growth alive through his incredible acting. It's like just through his gaze alone, you can tell instantly who is who. I've instantly become a huge fan of the talent he brings as an actor, and am now going down a rabbit hole watching his other mesmerizing performances in dramas and movies. He is easily one of the most devoted actors I've seen, and I am so glad he's making a comeback! Apparently the subway scene was even inspired by his own real life, when he was struggling as a young actor, and an old lady cheered him up with food.
Now this does have a slow start, but I highly recommend sticking till Ep 4 at least before dropping it, because things only ramp up more and more. This is one of those few dramas where it's clear that the director, writers, and producers all had a common vision from the start and they fearlessly and faithfully followed it till the end. EPISODE 15 IS ONE OF THE SINGLE GREATEST EPISODES I'VE SEEN IN A LONG TIME and the way it all perfectly comes together with the character development, the plot twists, backed by an amazing OST is just so beautiful that I have no words to describe it. This deserves a lot more attention.
Super disappointing ending. Overall an almost masterpiece of a drama and top tier in every category, especially with acting and cinematography, but this ending left so much to be desired. It was super rushed with the conclusion of key characters like RE neglected, the annoyingly repeated amnesia trope, and lots of plot holes with the timeline that the writers didn't care to think about it when going for a really emotional ending to try and make you forget all the glaring mistakes. I have no regrets about watching this, and I feel all the awards are well deserved. The chemistry is insanely good between NKM and AEJ and I'm glad they got the best couple's award! Wish I could see them act together again. I also have even more respect for NKM as I didn't believe he could pull off romance too, but this may be his best performance for me, with hot stove league coming in second. I also loved that the FL was treated right with the drama, and she wasn't a complete damsel in distress, but became much stronger mentally and resilient to her circumstances. One of the best love stories I've watched.
Thank you u saved my precious time. A Big INSTAGRAM influencer recently Bragged about it. She said "she would…
I never stopped you from speaking your mind..but if you want to get defensive for no reason, go right ahead. Also whatever you just said doesn't change my point. Based on that one person's opinion, you automatically assumed that the high rating of this is a sham. I've yet to watch this, but just be aware that not everything highly rated is overrated. All I'm trying to say is, you need to judge for yourself. Anyways, I won't entertain you any further.

It's true some dramas are really inflated in their ratings these days, but don't forget all this is subjective. People will like what they like, and not everyone has the same interests. Be careful about taking the opinion of just one person and dropping something, in case you may like it. Also copying and pasting the same comment 3 times is just weird..
The only thing I regret is not watching this sooner. This has cemented in my mind as one of the best crime thrillers. Everything is just perfect start to finish. Tae Joo is now one of my favourite characters of all time, along with the secondary characters who are so well developed and enjoyable to watch. I enjoyed their bonding and angst moments much more than any other crime thriller I've seen, possibly on par with Signal (more exaggerated though). The bromance is perfect, so is the acting, and the plot twists and cliffhangers were gripping. There's so many moral dilemmas and the mystery is always present in the ambiguously well written dialogues by the characters, always making you question what exactly is going on. It's never too clear if he's truly time travelling, and if anyone else in the past knows, because the dialogue is so deceptively written as to confuse anyone watching similar to Tae Joo. I'm so glad there isn't as much focus on corruption in this as there is in most other crime thrillers, and this really lets it feel unique, and give way to more unique plot developments. I also loved the little romance in the series, and I wish we could have got more of it, since it was such a perfect pairing with amazing chemistry between the actors involved. Very satisfying ending too, which is purposefully left ambiguous, similar to Inception if anyone knows that movie.
5 months later....and I have yet to find anything that matches the incredible writing and sublime nature of this drama.
Reposting my 5 mth old short review for newcomers: Hard to believe this was a director's debut. This is top notch in every category, ranging from the incredible main cast to the actual sports drama and story. This is some of the best storytelling I have ever seen in a drama and every episode had me glued with it's tight and well-written plot. I know nothing about baseball and neither am I into it, but this made me laugh and cry at all the important moments. I learned a lot as this drama touches on a lot of realistic parts of baseball behind the scenes, and I couldn't help my cheers whenever something good happened. There is so much going on in each episode and it can get slow at times, but every episode was gripping and kept raising my expectations. It's intense plot-wise but very grounded at the same time. This is one of the few drama where each episode just gets better and better. All of the characters were super compelling by the end with their own interesting character arcs and motivations, especially KKM who is masterfully played by Oh Jung Se. Truly one of the greatest inspirational dramas I have seen. Sad this is so underrated despite having won awards. I was recommended this as an NKM fan, and this damn well delivered in every respect. I doubt I'll find anything like this again. This is a one of a kind masterpiece that I feel I can never watch again in the same way.
Teaser is very interesting. I'm excited for this as a JDY and crime-thriller fan. The actress playing the mother is so eerie that I have high hopes for this.
