I think the reason people are so touchy about rape and less so about murder, is murder feels far removed from their lives, but sexual assault is a very present fear. Few women walk the streets afraid of torture but will often be afraid of rape. This means it’s easier to see the murder and torture as fiction and harder to see sexual violence as fiction.
It’s also far easier for an ordinary person to be a rapist, with far lower risk, than to be a murderer. Which makes people very concerned about encouraging rape in any way.
I also think if you can’t handle gang sh*t don’t watch gang shows but I can understand peoples reactions.
