I'm really curious about why they decided to do this spin off since it's not a common thing in the kdrama industry…
I too want to know if the writer are really checking whether the paring works to cast them like in a different drama or they just wanted to add more to the character as NGNL is not usual 16 episode drama.
Ja Yeon being disappointed to live in the censored version was so funny.
That was actually funny to think that her character was virgin in NGNL and then she transported to her smut novel and still end up being in the censored version 😂
I have to say that even though I knew LSY was the ml in this spinoff and I was looking forward to it, the first…
Okay this was my thoughts too, LYJ had that naught feel to the character of kang ha jun which LSY didn't had; he had much more romantic innocent feel and I think it went well mainly cause the female lead itself didn't possessed the foxy like feel once Nam ja Yeon was transported to her body.
I agree everything you said. Might I add few of points. I haven't seen any plus size person in kdrama as leads…
Also something I noticed that with dong hee she is plus size so always told to control her food, but with Grace it the same, she is not but is constantly told to eat less just to maintain her figure. Both the character seems to be happy confident on there own but when they are around someone who is constantly telling about this they seems to loose themselves more and more.
I agree everything you said. Might I add few of points. I haven't seen any plus size person in kdrama as leads why should I say that for just k drama it's similar for c, thai, India, and many more asian show. Now there can be plus size characters but again most of them is either for comedic relief or just a no-seen side characters. Never in lead roles. So I don't know how things actually goes behind the filming but it seems it hard for plus size actor to have lead roles and if they have one they make that their personality or the story is solely based on their weight. Being said that.
The character in this series Bok dong hee, cannot be played by a plus size actor as the character throughout the series goes under weight loss. Now the fictional story can move in different pace but the real life actor has to loose significant amount of weight within the filming schedule, and that can be unhealthy and risky to do. Especially when the schedule goes for couple months only.
Now the character, I agree the way it began, it's very type cast. The way she shoves food, the people judging around her, everything to the people thinking process of why she is fat is stereotype. But to see how the show unfolds her story tells you most about her character in the beginning of the show. Her dreams and career got shatter cause of controlling mom, she started binge/stress eating and she herself told how she shoves her face with food just to get that feeling out. Because of this she got weight gain and her mother constant future dreams and telling her she can't fly made her repeat the cycle and the believe formed that she can only fly if she is thin. That constant yapping from different people made a very confident person loose that confidence and she started to blame her appearance. So her connection with food and her body remain toxic so much so that she became a pushover to the point that when her bf cheated she thought maybe she is not good enough. Her stress eating habits are still present even when she lost weight and that is something will take time. Side rant about me- (I don't know about you so I can't say but I'm a plus size person, i wasn't used to be but with different setback in my life I started stress eating and ended up gaining weight and everyone around me even my family started pointing out. Not said in a mean way but in a concerning way, but no matter in what context it was said it did affect my confidence. So even though my family was concerned that sudden weight gain can affect my health my relation with my body changed for the worst. I'm working on it. So I'm at a much better place than I was used to. The concern is still their and now I understand what they are talking about. But when I didn't understood that I thought my weight is really a big problem that I might end up not having love in my life.)
I'm not discrediting what you said just providing a different perspective .
I wish the answer was that simple. A few cases I read about true crime make me believe it bit more complicated than that. I’m not korean or know that much but through multiple cases, I come to see that perpetrators often try to contact the victim and in many cases, the victim has relocated. The defamation laws work crazily in Korea and when such perpetrators get parole with an ankle bracelet or are reinstated in society after completing the sentence they are given housing and in most cases, they can choose the area they want to live in and police can’t say otherwise. On top of that, you (the general public or officers) can not talk about them while addressing them as perp neither in public nor in private; the information is only visible on a given site, and the victim receives msg alerts for 3 months or so.
Did you notice how even a police inspector couldn’t say exactly what was going on and he asked to check msg and email. It was not because of dramatic delivery it’s because you can be sued for defamation. So why this is present as I said the defamation law is so strong many people end up getting sued and many noncriminals end up behind bars so Korea placed this law to reinstate them in society as a second chance but this law has more problems these days cause criminals that have committed grave crimes such as m*rd*r, SA, CSA can also benefit from this, but the amount of time they receive as sentencing sometime is so comical that when they are reinstated a lot of them have higher chances of reoffending. So I guess you can not block them; if I’m not wrong phones in Korea you cannot even switch off the click sound of the camera even if you set it to silent it will still make the sound which also needs to be present by law in your phone cause of hidden camera (Molka) crimes issue
idk why but the FL is giving me serious red flags🚩...when ji-uk got confronted by the CEO and he got called…
Your concern and my concern of that is totally different 😅🤣 when I was watching the scene i thought she will ask him to divorce her instead she ask him to go to the office and fight for the position. Ngl, I didn't see that coming. But then most of there responses feels like punchlines to me now
I love how this drama has balanced the comedy elements so well. None of the characters had regular life. Every character has a trauma brought to them cause of someone else.
Hae yeong feeling lonely around her own parents, Ji uk told to stay hidden and feel sorry for his existence by his own grandmother, Na Yeon and Hui seong having a toxic family environment, Gyu hyun having a father who is an adulter which affected the way his family behave, Hui seong partner who is polygamous in a society like SK and then the pregnancy portion, Na Yeon staying in constant fears cause of the abuse she went through and now the perpetrators is out she is fearful again (expect ha jun, as his past is not talked about in the show) none of them had a normalcy in their life keeping that in mind the drama still was able to make this a rom com rather than a melo drama. Great work. You end up laughing but also don't forget the struggles each character has. I'm loving how the drama is showing the bright side of their life.
Apart from that being a abide true crime listener who is very much interested in crime in Asia. I hear to many coming from SK. So naturally with dramas i started to pick up the societal norm that also adds a layer to watching k dramas now days. I noticed them addressing other critical issue in this drama the story for a victim relocating cause the perpetrator is on parole or done with their sentence and is now haunting them which is so prevalent in many cases I hear. On this note I believe that ji uk has nothing to do with the FL's father which like others I was also scared to see unfold but I think it's Na Yeon father who killed Hae yeong father when he was trying to protect Na Yeon. Maybe?
hi thanks for reading and commenting! Dont get me wrong, i did finish the series and watched it weekly thats why…
Thank you for sharing your view. I can see why the FL may frustrated people. I also saw the same reaction a lot of viewer had towards the FL of "our beloved summer". On the fact why my mind went to see more of the meaning behind the title- I was analysing her out of the blue spoken monologue right after taking money. At first it may seem just a dramatic form of her expression but as the drama unfold I started to see how the monologue was fitting the plot of the drama. I have seen many drama with different kind of title and I have seen people getting riled up with that. But often time when you go through drama you will notice why the title is there. Also the fact that the English translated titles can be so different sounding/have different meaning. One of my favourite has to be "Dr. Romantic S2" in the last episode the main character talk about why he is famous for that pet name and that just made so much deep impression on me. I fell again for that drama. I like how writer put so much effort in titles. Being an professional artist myself I sometimes dread the naming part of my artwork cause most of the time I paint my surroundings and nostalgia so naming them became a hard part.
Hello@2busywatching, You wrote so well. And well articulated.I liked the way you wrote your lines, without any…
Thank you for explaining it so beautifully. Also hello to the world of kdrama. As some who always recommend people to watch A business Proposal or Shooting Star as there first drama in rom-com genre. I'll do the same for you. Hope you get the time to give these a try and hope you enjoy them 🤗
hi thanks for reading and commenting! Dont get me wrong, i did finish the series and watched it weekly thats why…
Thank you for putting your perspective, I haven’t finished the show I'm still on episode 9, so I have no idea of the ending yet. My comment was just for the title. I did like a few aspects of drama which I failed to write. That lack of communication on my end.
Just a simple comment through my pov is for me the story of Cinderella I never saw the character of Cinderella as someone who needs to be saved. I always read the story of a person who witnessed abuse because of her new parent figure and she just wanted to go see what a ball looks like and enjoy it without worrying about any chores, she dared to do so but in the end, the parent shredded the courage she had hence she got magical help. The prince was never on her bingo card. That is why I connected the story here. The fl worked hard and dared to bring herself out of her toxic home but with that, she also lost her childhood, and whatever courage she gathered to live her own life was again shredded cause of the fact that he is rich and in a country like SK when someone marries a chaebol their past is dug up and she was insecure about that cause she doesn’t fully address that. That's why I pointed out that after 12 just like Cinderella may have dreaded the situation she dreaded the situation of her relationship after discovering he is f**king loaded.
Now I haven't finished the show so I understand where you are coming from and I respect that. Thank you for educating me through a different perspective. I'll finish the last episode tomorrow and then I'll see how I like the ending. Cause, honestly, I like so many kdrama that have weird/ worst/ strange endings😂😂 and I always end up being frustrated.
