great drama

this drama was probably one of the best ones ive watched in a while. im not really the type to watch solely for romance so this drama was good in that way. im not saying there wasnt romance tho but it develops pretty smoothly and only takes flight towards the end. the story is pretty decent, although inconsistent at times. it focuses a lot on individual character development which is nice. all the main characters are really likeable.
some people found the ml yun tianhe really childish but honestly himbos are funny and he literally barely had any human interaction so what do you expect.

no complaints on casting or acting
osts are good and pretty emotional; they suit the drama well.

the start of the drama was pretty lighthearted, first few episodes are light and silly which is enjoyable. ml and fml dynamic was really funny and nice to watch. the story progressed really well for the most part, sometimes the plot got a little slow but its alright. its really interesting tho and at one point theres like an epiphany moment where everything starts to make sense and the dots start connecting its pretty fun.
the world building (as its a fantasy) is pretty easy to understand too you dont need to rack your brains to understand it.
what i liked the most about this drama was the sweet platonic relationship between the four mains like that is true friendship. this held out til the last episode omg the ending was so.. beautiful. its pretty bittersweet but thats how it shouldve ended and im glad it ended that way.

now there are very few things i dislike abt it.
the cgi was honestly pretty good for a cdrama but it got a little choppy towards the end. this next parts a spoiler but i dont understand how qionghua falling would kill all mortal beings like its so small compared to the rest of the land. my next point isnt much of a big deal but i dont like how they made liu mengli (second female lead) end up liking tianhe too. she clearly stated she had never loved a man before and i think they should of stuck with that cus the trope of two girls liking one guy is.. well not my cup of tea. it wasnt really a love triangle at all tho but they shouldnt have left her hanging like that like id be more satisfied if they made her gay or smth (but yk china would never do that).

anyways to conclude it is very worth watching it’s interesting funny heartwarming tear wrenching just everything youd need in a good costume drama !!

only watch if you really like the mains

(minor spoilers)
this drama actually started off pretty well, i would rate the first few episodes a solid 8/10, only that the cgi was really bad. honestly i couldnt take the entire drama seriously just because the visual effects were so goofy. like that one lion guy is just so horrible to look at it makes me laugh. the story is pretty solid, but ig what made my rating so low was just that it got so boring, but again, if you like the main actors than watch it. and by mains i do not mean song xinran and the other guy. i dont even know why they listed her as one of the main characters cus she got less screentime than some of the supports. this is also the third time (and counting) that the character she plays dies like omg why do they keep killing her. so if you like song xinran maybe dont waste your time on this, but her character (ji rong) is actually one of the most interesting ones.

most of the characters are pretty likeable, there are only a few annoying ones (xueying's brother, situ hong's cousin, etc). there are also so many jealous ppl in this. although i feel like for dramas like these, romance is unnecessary, but the romance in this one is cute and adds a nice touch to it. normally when i watch dramas i have that feeling like oh, female lead is too good for male lead, stuff like that, but i think they suit each other pretty well. to be honest i skimmed through most of the episodes after i got bored so i dont have any complaints abt anything else.

in conclusion, if you have a short attention span, and dont have a particular interest in any of the main characters, do not watch this itll be a waste of time. otherwise go ahead i think youll like it.

decent

i actually liked this drama to a certain extent like it made me actually care for some of the characters, feel sad for them and etc. storywise it started off like okay but it felt like something was missing? idk but it also felt like the main couple's romance was a little odd and rushed but it turned out okay afterwards. the different lives part was interesting too and the male leads actor did a really good job. at the part when yanyue (ML) was abt to kill wei zhi (FL) i was on the brink of tears at that point i did care abt them and want them together but like after when mu nan (the demon lord) shows wei zhi her past life yan yues's past life really made me dislike him. i think the lack of showing his pov and inner thoughts created a disconnect between the viewers and the character so i honestly almost forgot abt how yan yue is not a horrible guy.

i think everyone was cast well and did a good job. the visual effects were also surprisingly good. the only weird part was when jjy would float in the air to use her phoenix powers.

the characters make some choices that i dont agree with and think are stupid but i did end up liking a few of them a lot. wei zhi is okay think but i feel like she is not silly enough like yeah shes the phoenix but jjy is more suited for characters with a sense of humor and less seriousness (pls cast her in a romcom). i did like sima wangyue more than weizhi just because of their personalities and jjy did a really well at the part where she was jailed cus ppl thought she was a demon like her expressions and voice was on point. yan yue as a character was a little iffy i think he just switched up too much i just couldnt get myself to trust him or like him. chen yan made it worse too like i just really hate him. he did some nice things for wangyue but he was a bitch to mu nan so i really dont like him. i think after yan yue "kills" wei zhi i just stopped caring abt the main couple like idrc abt them at all.

my favourite characters gotta be mu nan, yi er lan su and ou ya especially the last three cus they were just the perfect trio. i felt really bad for mu nan and liked him way more than the two mains and normally i dont like the male characters so his character was really good yk. i wont talk abt any of the major deaths here but one part i really disliked was how they just killed lan su off like ??? it was so unnecessary and she didnt do anything to deserve that like it was such a pathetic death too. also why did yan luo get a sad music video death monologue and not lan su. she got more screen time and she was more amusing. this is pretty girl erasure. i got spoiled that lan su died which made it even worse because it was such an underwhelming death. i do find it funny how she was talking for like five minutes straight after being hit by the killing strike and they didnt bother to try to like patch her up and stop the bleeding or smth. also why does no one have healing powers in this that is kinda stupid too. and why do song xinrans characters always die in the last few episodes like give her a break lmao.

another thing i disliked was how rushed the ending was. the whole things 36 episodes so why not just make it 40? the last two episodes are so squished together the time jumps are just crazy. they shouldve also made the prologue a whole extra episode itself cus it wouldve been nice to see how the characters ended up but i guess they cant do that either cus they made 30 year jump like who does that?

rewatch value is quite low cus there arent any outstanding parts that i would want to rewatch.

in general this drama was okay and it had potential and almost reminded me of ten miles of peach blossoms but was just not it ig. i think its a lot better than the blooms at ruyi pavillion so i dont get why the ratings for this are lower than for that one but ig this dramas a hit or miss like some people really hate it and some people really like it. i think im in between there somewhere.

goofy

i started watching this drama because ive recently been interested in snh48 and was just scrolling through jiang shan's discography only to find this drama. i became interested when i saw kiki xu and ju jingyi in the cast. ive heard ppl say jjy is not very good at acting but i didnt get far enough to see scenes where she had to express a greater range of emotion, so i think she did an okay job. personally i find her character(fu rong) hilarious just from the stupid things she does in the first few episodes. in the first scenes i laughed my ass off when she fell out of the tree that was just too funny. i couldnt help but to kick my feet everytime kiki (fu xuan) came on tho cus shes just so pretty. she and jinsoul from loona look so much alike; its so crazy to me so i mostly just stare at her face when shes on camera. acting wise, the second male leads pissed me off. the way he moves his mouth is just weird. the guy fu xuan was paired with was okay tho i liked him more than the other men in the show and hes more aesthetically pleasing than the others. his character lowkey made me mad too cus like get away from her!! but he cant for the plot so ? i have no complaints about the male lead cus i skipped most of the parts he was in cus i dont really like looking at him.

i dont care abt the romance in the show either cus i just watched it for the pretty girls but uhhh fl and ml relationship was boring fl 2ml was slightly better but got weird fu xuan and 507 was probably the best one romantically.

i think the best relationship in general was between the fu sisters. theyre just so sweet and you can tell they really care abt eachother. plus it was funny and endearing watching fu xuan getting fu rong outta all the situations she gets herself into. too bad the screentime between them was mostly in the first few eps cus they had to push the romance part for the plot.

funny thing is ig i watched this for jiang shan only for her to play the most annoying ass character but i got to give it to her she did a really good job ? good at acting straight. okay after finishing it she did a really good job acting in general like i see that character development!! song xinran also did a good job i liked her character rip. also i had no idea gnh48 zheng danni was fu rongs servant till the last episode lmao

to be honest i skipped most of the parts the men were in so i have no feelings about the plot so i gave them the benefit of the doubt and a rating of six. i think the only parts i would rewatch is when fu rong falls out of a tree. i will update this when i finish the show.
okay finished it and so much was going on lmao i think it was lowkey a waste of time but it was kinda silly so i dont mind. i think reading recaps is better than actually watching it tho
