In the novel they get together after all is resolved to some extent and while the police is closing on the Zhang…
If they stick to the novel they don't get together until the very end of the final chapter. They love each other but it's not until the end that CY properly makes his mind up and makes a decision to not push MJ away, and to be with her. The drama is following the same route, except that they get work involved rather than just romance involved.
For those who have read the novel and remember:In the drama, she returns to her hometown because she's assigned…
In the novel, MJ wasn't assigned any job and she returns because she found a job in Tengcheng. It's not very clear in the drama but it gives me the impression that MJ was assigned the job and it just happens to be in Tengcheng. Regardless in the novel or drama, I'm certain MJ's return is always because of CY.
Ugh, I almost always try to just ignore it and carry on, but the hate towards MJ is getting so unreasonable. Plus, the guy isn’t even her current boyfriend, he’s just an ex. Everybody can have an ex. I know we all have our preferences, and the image of someone who loves you wholeheartedly and dedicates their life to you without asking for anything in return is probably the most ideal kind of lover in the world. But if people don’t like the story or the characters, they should just log out and watch something else. Instead, they come here and type out genuinely hurtful things!!
Sorryyyyy I'm just ranting I love MJ so much 😂 Thank you for listening to me rant!!
Ughhh the tension when MJ told CY to come closer than proceeded to fix his shirt collar thingy for him. I can't take it pls just kiss or hug already 😭😭😭
What's happening in the comment section? 😵💫 Guys let's chill. You're in the wrong show if you're after a typical unrequited love, just you and only, I will wait for you to return/return to you no matter what show. It's a drama but this drama is also a novel adaptation. Yes they have toned down but I hope people understand the original characters are still there, per author disclaimer in the very beginning of the novel: 'The ML and FL both had other partners during the period when they were apart, neither of them is a virgin. Both have dark sides and certain aspects that may shock readers, so please be cautious before jumping in.'
The age gap is 16 months between them both. CY by SWL may look more mature but yes MJ is 16 and CY is 18.
Yeeee I know you what think. That's the charm of ZJY I think. She can pull off being a teenager with no make up and with make up she's a beautiful grown up adult. I love SWL but he has always (to me) looked the same i.e. mature visual (I never ever ever imagined he was born 1999 when I watched Go Ahead) and I dun think make up can make him look 18🙈 . But his visual is great for the present CY. MJ doesn't look and act younger than CY, she acts her age, CY just looks older, prolly with everything he's been through throughout childhood.
The scene where CY fought them bad guys to protect MJ.. was sooo good. The OST was amazing.
I remember in BTS footage for this scene, Jingyi salso aid that simply touching their foreheads as written in the script wasn't enough. It had to be a tight embrace to truly convey the initmacy and closeness between the characters. SWL & ZJY have such deep understanding of CY & MJ that they were able to portray the scene perfectly!
Can’t help tearing up a bit at that dialogue before their kiss 😭 CY can’t take it when MJ being in danger & MJ can’t take it being away from CY. It hurts so much.
ZJY & SWL fit their roles amazingly. Sooo good soo fine sooo much chemistry. Love it!

This is much more than just a modern romance.
