because he is, I think that clicked for me around ep 20 (maybe even earlier) because I was confused at the identity of the masked man in black and the masked red man from the Crimson Conclave gang - when it was revealed that Gu Qin was the masked man in black, it clicked for me that Yin Qing is Shangguan He because of the expression he had on his face when he first saw the mark on Meng Ting Hui's body - that was the biggest giveaway that he had some past connection with her.

I wish they did that instead of doing an ending which was trashy imo and unfair to the viewers watching this when they know we all wanted a happy ending for the couple. Especially considering what he had gone through in his childhood only to end up dead….how does that do any justice to him?

So RSS lives but MQI DIES?!!! WTF?!!!!! Someone please make it make sense. They literally killed off all the good characters and left the most weakest link in this drama alive. Absolute nonsense!! A complete waste of potential for Zhang Ling He and Wang Chu Ran. I can't for the life of me think what made them even choose this drama in the first place because the script is so flawed and badly written. I'm surprised this drama even passed censorship in the first place with it being a Republican drama! The only good thing about this drama was the outfits and the OST. But apart from that there was absolutely nothing good about the drama. It's overly angsty, overly dramatic and quite frankly a pain to watch. This drama belongs in the trash along with the script. Firstly, the overuse of AI in this drama made it uncomfortable to watch especially in the early episodes where it was heavily used even in the intro until they changed it. After that it became the script because honestly there was absolutely nothing good about the ML and the FL. I'd be surprised if the actors playing these roles had anything good/positive to say because the FL was a selfish person from start to finish. The ML - absolutely no dignity of his own, always pining and going after the FL. The teasers got me into watching this drama, but after starting it, I started regretting wasting my time on it but carried on just for closure's sake.

I've watched the drama until the current episode and I'm with the people who didn't like it because fr it's overly toxic, overly dramatic, overly angsty with lots of nonsensical tropes. They've nearly killed off every 'good' character, and so far none of the characters have a happy relationship, not even the side characters! I'm gonna stick with it until the end mainly for closure but if it was anyone else who was looking to watch this drama, my advice to them would be to steer well and clear from this drama.
