"The Story of Ming Lan" explores this dynamic a lot. It's a great drama.

Yup, you're too modern. lol In the old days, many concubines were treated like trash by the legal wives (I'm sure there were exceptions). On one level, concubines were considered the master of the house's playthings. However, they also provided insurance if the primary wife could not bear sons.

In a twisted sense, many legal wives liked this setup because: 1) The greater the number of their husbands' concubines, the more prestige it brought to their household; 2) They gained more authority by overseeing their husbands' concubines, with the power to kill them, sell them, or claim their children as their own.

I think it did. It's super annoying.

You can quickly differentiate between thoughtful, critical feedback on a drama and criticism stemming from pettiness and boredom. Some people hate it when others are enjoying something they don't like.

I'm dealing with it by saying you sound petty and bored. Go fly a kite.

Ok, that was a nice twist. I was expecting HZ to be angry at GYX for deceiving her. But, she was calm and handled it well. While I love their easy courtship (it's too easy), they need some adversity to make their relationship a bit more interesting. A little bit of angst can't hurt. lol

First, the FL friend-zones SML, but later the ML friend-zones the FL. He calls her his "bosom friend!" I was like dude, WTF?! That's not what she wanted to hear. lmao

But I get it. GYX's primary objective is to investigate HZ's family, not to fall in love with her. This entire romance is being built on a foundation of lies and deception. And I'm here for the fallout.

I hope she's not too forgiving, too. He's been lying to her and deceiving her for far too long. He even used his sister to spy on the family.

Yeah, they're at the calm-before-the-storm stage of their relationship. The moment they fully fall in love, GYX's mask will literally and figuratively fall off. lol

HYT is portraying a soldier with hidden emotional scars. So, the character GYX is supposed to be stiff and guarded.

Although GYX is a good guy, he's been lying to HZ for a while now. When HZ finds out that GYX has been manipulating her for information and he's the guy behind the mask, she will be heartbroken. I'm guessing she'll find out right after completely falling for him. GYX will have to work to earn her trust back.

He comes back right away. lol

Am I the only one who feels that Gu Yan Xi is using Hua Zhi to get to the bottom of his mother's murder? Of course, he's slowly developing feelings for her. But for now, he's mostly playing her for info. When Hua Zhi discovers Gu Yan Xi's double identity, she will undoubtedly feel betrayed. This is a great story so far. I love the characters. If you have read the novel, please no spoilers.

I think his acting fits the character he's playing. Once he truly falls for the FL, we'll see a different side of him.
