A Big Messy Drama of Missed Opportunities
Positive Points
1. No fight between the 2 love rivals of the ML. Both women were dignified and did not have any ugly fight while trying to get 1 man for themselves. Both of them were smart and knew where to draw the line.
2. The leads had a healthy relationship. There was no toxic 3rd party between them and there was no illogical misunderstanding solely for the purpose of drama. I liked their dynamics at the beginning a lot but alas it didnot continue till the end.
Negative Points
1. I have no idea what was this drama was even about or what it was trying to convey. Everything starts and ends too quickly for me to settle. Many things happen too quickly and gets solved too quickly for me to even take it seriously.
2. I am sorry to the fans of this couple but I found zero chemistry between leads. Their love story at the start was good but later i don't even know where it went. It would have been far more entertaining if the drama focused more on their rivalry instead of who will be the king.
3. The FL was smart and was somewhat entertaining at the beginning but as the story progressed, she started to feel more like a damsel in distress. The supposed to be strong FL needs to be rescued by the ML all the time. She has no sense of self respect and dignity. She could have been shown to be spontaneous without being rude and intruding. Stealing medicine from people though she can afford them is called stealing no matter what the cause is. I have ignored her behavior towards the ML as he equally indulges her due to his feelings, so it is okay. But for other people it is not good at all. I have no idea why she needs to hide her identity at all. How her father and brother left her there with little or no money to struggle outside is a wonder to me (Because she was shown to be struggling financially and no matter how accommodating her brother and father may be towards her need for freedom, they would never allow it). ML is supposed to be so oppressed by his stepmother, who was a normal maid but is so opt in royal scheming and networking with ministers without any backing of her family. Even the 1st empress with Imperial backing was no match for this woman. But she has no idea what the ML is doing. The king or anyone has no idea about the glorious things this ML did but the FL knows. The FL's real identity as Princess Xiyun should have triggered a little bit more emotions from the ML as from the beginning of the drama he was quite obsessed with Princess Xiyun. The scene was too flat for my liking. What an idiotic writing.
5. How did the antagonist hide about him being a part of a cult organization? Wasn't his family punished for being a traitor? None of them lives beyond 30 years due to the blood curse. How come then his reputation is so good and no knows that he is upto something. Isn't he the master schemer who lost at the end within a few minutes. At least show some fight so that I can take them seriously.
6. I have never seen such illogical idiotic action scenes ever. It looks like all of them had some invisible Jetpack attached behind them, for them to fly like a bullet vertically. It would have been best if there were no action scenes at all. Due to the action scenes I got confused if it was an Wuxia or a Xianxia drama. Did the production team run out of money that they could not afford 2 swords for the main leads. One fights with clothes which comes out of nowhere and is as sturdy as a sword, while the other one fights with a fancy fan. At least give proper action scenes so that I can believe in their choice of weapon.
Overall, it was a boring drama and by the end I didnot care about who will rule the world. The starting was promising and it had a big chance of becoming that "It" drama but it was a missed opportunity. It is highly overrated in my opinion and was not suited for my taste at all. I would not recommend the drama at all.
