yes , it is not that strict and exact like the real ancient times in drama, the ml might have married into the shen family instead of fl marrying into the ml family could be bcs of he has no family in his life and in trailer we can see the shen family consider him as one of their family members and a important person, so he is just getting into a new family rather then thinking of he married into shen family, since he is one of them in shen family after marriage , their child naturally takes shen as sur name, and both women and men wont take each other's surname since ancient China, so no matter whom they marry into, their surname remains the same in china. and also he is not his ancestor, he is a completely a unknown ancient person who married a lady from shen family, and it is ending up to be the fl, only he is gonna be 1000yrs older then him, we can take it as wuxia genre

yes , also ml is not a relative of shen family in ancient times, ml just married from the shen family, and even though the modern shen family thinks it is someone in their 1000yrs back shen family from ancient times who married him but the fl only gonna marry him in end so, he is not thier ancestor, and we can see in the start of 1st ep before time travelling, thw photo of both ancestors, one is ml and another one's who is the ml's wife face is not clear and looks like the facial features painting is gone , it is clearly to hide who the wife was but even though the face is not visible, we can see from the picture's shape that it looks lot like fl, so the conclusion is ml is not fl's ancestor maybe we can consider him as 1000yrs older then her like in wuxia genre
