Idk much about his acting besides this drama but for that particular scene maybe it wasnt his acting but his character? He didn't have a bond or relationship with his father so I can see why his character wasnt as "emotional".

No, I think she had her mini sword hidden on her and stabbed him with it. He then took it out of him and stabbed her with it while they were hugging.
