I find it interesting and as fascinating that some viewers expected The Next Prince to be a light, romance-driven series, when the final trailer clearly depicted a far more layered and politically charged narrative. Yes, there is young romance, but it exists within a much larger and more complex storytelling ecosystem. The beauty of this projec is the realism in it. I feel much of this misplaced expectation might stem from the way Zee and NuNew have been "typecast" in the public eye following their success in Cutie Pie. While that project was widely popular, it created a particular image of the two , one that some audiences still seem hesitant to see evolve. But for those who truly want to see ZeeNuNew break into the mainstream and build long-term, versatile careers, their involvement in mature, nuanced projects like The Next Prince should be seen as a crucial step forward. And indeed, it was the first step.
It's also essential to consider the broader political context. With the Thai government planning significant investment in the creative industries, especially in BL content, as part of a 10-year soft power strategy, the spotlight on Thai media is only set to intensify.
In my opinion for actors like Zee and NuNew to be part of stories that move beyond surface-level romance and instead engage with socio-political complexity is exactly the kind of artistic evolution that can elevate significantly their profiles on an international scale.
