Review: Love Upon a Time (Ongoing Impressions)

Acting & Chemistry: NetJJ Never Disappoints!

‎One word for their acting: Amazing! Net and JJ are truly all-in for this drama. Especially JJ his performance here is truly commendable and has successfully made me fall in love. Their chemistry is undeniable; every interaction feels so alive, natural, and emotional. They’ve managed to bring their characters to life with such strength.

‎ Plot: A Slow Burn That Requires Patience

‎It must be admitted, this drama features a slow-burn plot. Since it’s set in the past, the dialogue tends to be lengthy and uses archaic language. Coupled with translations that are sometimes a bit complex, there are moments that might feel a bit boring or heavy to follow. But if you’re patient, every conversation actually builds a strong foundation for the story.

‎ Visuals & Audio: Top-Notch Cinematography and Costumes

‎The technical aspects of this drama are absolutely top-notch!

‎Cinematography: The use of warm color tones makes the visuals feel very aesthetic, high-end, and perfectly captures the atmosphere of the past.
‎Costumes: The details of the traditional clothing are absolutely stunning and fit the actors perfectly.
‎OST: The background music is also fantastic and always succeeds in making the scenes even more dramatic.

Why Should You Watch This Drama? (A Message for New Viewers)

‎For those of you who are still hesitant to watch because of the historical setting, trust me, this is really good and a must-watch! Even though it’s set in the past, the story still feels plausible and relatable. Why? Because the main character comes from the future—a time period identical to our own. So, we can experience the perspective of a modern person who’s been transported back in time.

‎Preliminary Conclusion

‎Even though the drama isn’t over yet, its moral message is already coming across very strongly. Exploring same-sex relationships in the past highlights just how difficult, taboo, and painful it is to love someone in an era when such relationships were looked down upon.

‎This is where Nakhun’s (JJ) character plays a crucial role as a person from the future. He is there to open the minds of those around him. For example, characters like Jom and Kaew, who are afraid and feel “strange” because they are attracted to the same sex.

‎Nakhun’s presence gradually shifts their perspective, helping them realize that their love is valid, and the struggle against social stigma in that era is portrayed in a truly heart-wrenching way.

‎Even though we’re only halfway through the story and I still have to wait until the final episode to see how all this struggle ends, this drama has already proven itself to be more than just your average romance. The combination of heavy social conflicts, NetJJ’s outstanding acting, and visually stunning scenes makes Love Upon a Time one of the best dramas out there it would be a real shame to miss it. I absolutely love it.
