I don't know. To me it seems that ending in the middle of the scene or a cliff hanger is something common in all Chinese dramas. They almost always start the next episode reiterating the last sentences of the previous episode. Which comes in handy when you are binge watching and skip an episode by mistake.

China has Tencent Video (WeTv), iQiyi, Youku etc as streaming services. They are using Netflix and co to popularise cdramas in the West. It is more likely to pull the licensing once enough international fans have subscribed to their services than to give in to the foreign streaming platforms.

I for one gave up Netflix, Disney Plus and Prime and now have yearly subscriptions to WeTv, iQiyi, Youku and Viki and could not be happier with the decision.

They try to bring their model and thinking to the world, not the other way around. Licensing shows on Amazon Prime, Disney or Netflix does not impact the production and release of cdramas.

They rely on their own market. International fans are a plus, not the target audience. So I don't think they will change to adapt to the westerner style.

The screenwriter did a great job adapting Love Like The Galaxy. I was looking forward to seeing how she would handle this one.

If you like historical romance cdramas with a bit of action and humour, this is probably the best there is. It's been incredible so far.

The leads have great chemistry, the ensemble cast are great, superb cinematography, the director is the one from Blossom and the screenwriter from Love Like The Galaxy. Cannot recommend it enough!

Episode 1, he watches on the cliff when the nanny comes to take her home. Then he watches when uncle Dong is sent away for treason. He watches when the Chen carriage comes into the capital. He watches on the Lantern Festival when she is in a red dress. He watches when Shaoshang goes to her first party and A'Yao has a fight with his fiancée...

LBY pretended not to be a gossip, but he was interested nonetheless. There was no value in watching uncle Dong being sent away. Lol. At least he knew what family he was marrying into.

It's not like he has anything else to do while convalescing. I do love the "ML quietly observes unfolding drama from a high vantage point" trope, and it seems so does the scriptwriter. It was masterfully done in Love Like The Galaxy, and it is masterfully done here.
