It's clearly defensive. Her mother seems to have run off, her father died early, she had to sell her childhood home to pursue her dream, she went through 3 years of brutal training that no other female candidate endured, there's gossip about her at work, she's still striving toward her goal, etc. In other words, she's been through a lot of hardship and therefore keeps her guard up to protect herself.

It seems like it's going to take time for her to thaw completely, but there are plenty of signs that she's softening little by little.

I'd probably find it tiresome if that was all we saw of her, but the fact that she's joyful when she's flying, relaxed around her friends and mentor, and obviously falling for the ML despite her resistance all make me root for her.

Her reaction isn't "why are you here!?" It's "why do I keep running into this jerk!?"

She's carrying around a lot of resentment toward him and would rather avoid him, but fate keeps interfering. I personally find it funny and relatable.

I've been rewatching shorts of the Ep 6 highlights partly because of the moments themselves (I can't get over Park Eun-bin's puzzled expression in the medium shot after the scooter incident where she's processing what just happened) but also for the comments from other people who felt the same way.

And the editing is sublime in the last scene with the setup/misdirection and then all the reaction shots. So good. :)

My personal feeling is that a lot of 16 and 12 episode shows would probably be better at 14 episodes. A little less bloat for a longer show and a little more depth for a shorter one.

But I agree with the comment below that the story should ideally dictate the length. Mercy for None was great at 7 episodes, while It's Okay to Not Be Okay was perfect at 16.
