Hot take: I miss this exact era of BL. Right before the another global wave hit. I love all the high production shows we're getting but I liked it so much more when the production companies didn't make BLs to make fans of a certain fixed ship happy and soft launch new actors for a fixed ship. Each show had a purpose and each show would have carefully selected actors.
I don't know. I just found it nice that the Thai BL industry wasn't shackled by fixed ships. Before they completely locked in with the idea of fixed ships, it really felt like we'd get roles assigned to a talented actor best suited for it. I know this practice is why this industry became so successful money-wise in the first place but I feel like it limits the actor's capabilities to grow and try new dynamics. It's why Ohm eventually became such a great actor in the first place. From Make It Right to Dew to this to Bad Buddy, he constantly had a new partner to adapt his dynamics to.
I'm trying to find this out too. I tried watching this twice.
I mean, the show kinda does show its age now. Love Upon A Time, for one, executes a similar plot much better. But this show still has one of my favorite endings for a BL. It's very beautifully acted. KornTouch's story carries the essence of this show.
I just want to say I always longed to see a BL show with the same production level and just the overall vibes as mainstream K-dramas and I feel like Domundi has been super close to bringing that to the table lately with their BLs. I know Domundi shows still have some screenwriting and acting flaws here and there, but at the pace they're growing, I fully trust they will be the first one to deliver what I have been wanting to see.
2025 was an insane year for BLs with how many quality shows we got. 2026 seems to be yet another repeat of that and I couldn't be happier.
God, I didn't expect at all for this silly reincarnation plot to get this heavy. What a tearjerker! Consider me completely fooled with the romcom focus in the first half. I fell in love with the characters and it was just super painful to see them going through all those realistic struggles.
To anyone reading this, please push through the first few episodes. The second half is simply 10/10.
Watching this beautiful show and Love Upon A Time back to back was not a good idea for my mental health. God protect all the queers from every repressed place they are in.
Well, I was very skeptical at first because the trailer disappointed me, but the actual episode was much better than I expected. I really liked the setting and the color grading, especially during the shared shower scenes and the scenes with Barth contemplating on the bed. I also appreciate the show tackling themes of religion, like how people use religious coping mechanisms to deal with difficult situations, while also showing how those same beliefs can turn out to be harmful to others.
What I didn’t like were the random comedic scenes. It’s not that they were bad, they just felt really out of place, especially with the goofy background music playing during them. I also don’t know if it’s an acting issue or a character issue, but Barth’s character gives off a lot of mixed signals and not in a good way. In one scene, he comes across as confident and rebellious, but in another, he feels much more scared and shy. Right now, he just feels kind of messy as a character. The contrast stands out even more because Tanrak has been very consistent so far.
Definitely a show one should watch in a single go IMO. I'll be waiting for all episodes to come out first now.
Despite my disappointment with the production quality in the trailer (it's not bad at all but it just could be so much more high quality), I still hope the show is great. The premise is the most interesting thing to come from GMMTV in ages.
Sadly, GMMTV shows always play too safe where they force a happy ending just to not enrage the viewers and I'm worried it might not fit this show at all. I hope P'Aof manages to atleast nail a more bittersweet vibe and ending for this one. If you want to leave an impact and a message, you have to do it perfectly from start to finish. Please don't screw up at the finish line.
This looks really promising. I love when a BL has actual great acting. Tongtong and this Boss guy actually seem work well together as well. Really excited for this.
You couldn't help yourself bring other shows into this, could you? I hope you're not expecting space ships CGI…
Obviously not? Just look at the movie Your Name Engraved Herein this show was heavily inspired from or even Shine from BeOnCloud. No CGI at all but you can instantly notice the higher quality.
GMMTV fans were arguing with me that this show would have the same budget as their straight bromance show Wu and the Scarlet Heart remake and GMMTV doesn't discriminate giving extremely high budgets to their most anticipated BLs. The official trailer proves that to be far from truth lol! The blurry grainy camerawork and the lightning is an embarassment when you compare it to what GMMTV has done for those shows. Atleast P'Aof has great artistic sense to give it a nice color grading. Disappointed when it comes to the production but I know GMMTV will never treat BLs and give them mainstream polish they give only to their non BL shows.
Oh well. Super excited to see Sinjai Plengpanich in this. She's definitely gonna give yet another legendary acting performance here.
For such a short series, I'm surprised I enjoyed it so much. I've never felt this way with a low budget BL since starting my BL journey way back lol. Power of having unique premises and plot! Such a shame it was this short. They could really expand on the throuple plot.
I really liked it. I do hate that their relationship is more up to "interpretation" but I think the show was really beautiful.
Next, I wish for Netflix JP to produce a gay romance show similar to 'This Is I' where they explore queer joy heavily but still touch on their struggles in a very respectful and realistic manner. Not that I have anything against heavy shows (they're my favorite), I just think they'd be far more successful this way and who doesn't want to see more Japanese gay romance stories with insanely high budget?
My personal hot take: The trailer is promising, they managed to nail the erotic theme, the actors are far from being ugly, they look the part, and for a short reels BL the budget seems pretty decent. So I think the hate is quite exagerrated.
I do wish it wasn't in vertical format in some random new app though because I think this actually had potential to become a hit if they put it in a proper streaming service.
Shocking, I know, but...you can actually have all the things...a great story...AND kisses...AND naked scenes...I…
heated rivalry comes to my mind when you say that. it literally mixes queer joy, struggle, and all the steamy scenes into one. wish more asian bls did that.
I think people will be upset if they tune in expecting explicit showcase of romance in this show. It will be gay but it’ll be very implicit doomed romance.
This director in past made a similar show where the goal was to portray a sadly realistic depiction of queer lives in Japan where you have to give up yourself to conform to preserving the culture.
And what about your complaint regarding "weak hero"?
Thailand is much more open to queer stories than Korea yet GMMTV still wants to cater to the homophobic audience. This comment is not the “gotchya” you think it is.
Weak Hero Class also feeds on homophobia fueled “bromance” delusion. That’s why I’m here so against a more progressive country like Thailand shifting towards from BL to “safer” bromances. And atleast one of the lead actors (Hong Kyung) in that show proudly played a gay role in a movie unlike the lead actors here.
When Korea removed the gay elements from High School Return of a Gangster and turned it into bromance, I was there day 1 criticizing them harshly.
