Because he’s quite tall with a broad frame/back, he can look a little slim, especially in certain clothes. And actors often maintain a particular physique for their characters, so how he looks in a drama can be very different from his everyday appearance. 😂 The same goes for Luo Yunxi, Joseph Zheng, Ao Ruipeng, Song Weilong, Xu Kai and Wang Hedi—everyone has a different natural build. Unless Yuxi himself or his team says something, let’s not speculate about his health. 💗”

Yeah 😂 I realized while writing it that it became quite Zhao Ling-centric. I was just really fascinated by how many different sides of his character we got to see throughout the drama. 😭 I definitely agree Fu Tingyun deserves a review of her own too. 💜

Finishing The Road to Splendor feels strangely emotional because Zhao Ling was never just one version of himself.
We met a salt merchant who struggled just to keep his brothers fed, then Jieweishuo, who became who he needed to be to protect them. We saw the Zhao Ling who simply told Fu Tingyun, “I believe you,” the ambitious man who wanted to clear his name, the soldier who went to war so he could give the woman he loved a better life, and the man who would always find his way home to her with whatever little happiness he could bring.
We saw the Zhao Ling who could endure humiliation for himself but never tolerate someone having bad intentions toward Tingyun. The one who cried when his brother sacrificed himself, the one who returned from war but stayed away from Tingyun because he thought distance would keep her safe, and the one who earned the Emperor's trust by serving honestly.
And then came our blockhead husband Zhao Ling 😂—the man who could understand court politics but somehow couldn't understand why his wife was angry, only to use his old tricks to win her back.
He knelt in the rain for hours because he knew how important Tingyun's mother was to her. He protected her mother, gave Tingyun the wedding she dreamed of, cared about the soldiers under his command because he remembered where he came from, and even when betrayal and loss kept taking people away from him, he still chose justice.
He was also the Zhao Ling who yearned silently, who was terrified of losing Tingyun, who finally admitted that he couldn't bear to lose her, and who repeatedly chose her safety over himself.
And perhaps most beautifully, after everything, he finally chose home.
He refused the rewards of the court and returned to Ganlin to be with his family. He made a swing for Yuyu, brought her toys, watched her grow, told her to become like her mother rather than him—and even after becoming a father, his first priority was still his treasure, Fu Tingyun. 🥹
And Fu Tingyun… Deng Enxi was truly such a wonderful choice for this role. At such a young age, she carried Tingyun's intelligence, strength, stubbornness, vulnerability and warmth so naturally. Watching her journey alongside Zhao Ling made Lingyun feel like two people growing together rather than one character simply following the other.
And that final place… 🥹
Yuyu only knows it as the place where her mother used to teach and where her father's dreams began.
But we know the other story.
It was the place where Zhao Ling once asked Tingyun which couple in the world they would want to be, where they quietly stole glances at each other, where their love grew stronger—and now they brought their little daughter back there.
The place where their story began became the place where their family continued.
After everything they endured, their greatest reward wasn't power, titles or glory.
It was each other.
Maybe that's what The Road to Splendor truly meant.
They walked through a road of suffering, but finally reached a life of love, family and peace.

The leads have already suffered so much throughout this story, so honestly, what’s wrong with letting them start living a little like they used to? 🥹 Every person, including the older generation of the Yu family, keeps comparing this young couple to how things were in the old days. After everything they’ve gone through, I just want to see them happy for a while. They deserve some peaceful and happy moments too. ❤️
I genuinely feel like we should give this drama a little more trust. The drama has handled almost every episode so beautifully until now, so why be scared because of just a few episodes? It’s a C-drama, especially a historical one—we can’t always expect the leads to get immediate happiness or for everything to go smoothly. Their struggles are part of the story.
I also see people interpreting the drama from their own perspectives and creating their own conclusions, like, “This director has always given good dramas, so maybe we can trust him a little, right?” And honestly, I agree. We’ve come this far, so I think it’s worth waiting to see how everything comes together.
What I dislike the most, though, is seeing all this frustration make other people wonder whether they should watch the drama at all. 😭 If you’re disappointed or frustrated, that’s completely understandable, but I sincerely hope we can keep those frustrations to ourselves until the drama is actually finished. Let people experience the story for themselves instead of making them hesitate before watching it.

They don’t simply get everything they want just because they’re the leads. They struggle, misunderstand, make choices, face consequences, and have complicated feelings—just like real people do.
So yes, I want them to be happy. 😂❤️ But I also want to trust the story enough to see where the director is taking them. We’ve already seen what this drama is capable of, so let’s not lose faith because of a few difficult episodes. Let’s wait until the whole story is told before deciding whether it was worth it.

It's so good like i have read it two times. Everyone who treated fu tingun badly gets their karma. Both the characters trust each other deeply. It's just that in drama they have shown fake marriage first while they get married after Zhao ling saves her and falling in love with each other and about that fl centred thingy I think it's not a problem cause Zhao lings development will be shown in drama which isn't in novel like how he joined the military and everything.The novel unlike dramas have mostly focused on the main characters lifes
Being a ML's fan I am not finding any problem 🤷🏻♀️ Yeah I know he appeared very less time in first 4 eps but he is the main lead so he will of course have more screen time later and according to the novel , fl and ml both are intelligent, smart and trust each other so it is not a fl centred drama unless director had done any changes. I didn't find much changes in first 4 eps. Now about the drama, both are doing great.Drama is not fast not slow faced. Deng enxi had improved a lot since melody of the golden age she is doing great. No need to say anything about ding yuxi cause he always shine ✨. So pls don't spread any negative comment . If you want to drop you can drop but I recommend you to watch atleast 10 eps before saying anything

I read the novel! It’s really good—the story mainly focuses on the ML and FL, and thankfully there are no unnecessary misunderstandings. They completely trust and believe in each other, which makes their relationship so good. 🥹
