the director is a catholic gay person so i guess that’s why the story folded this way. sadly, this is why we…
I did not know that, thanks for telling me. Now it makes sense. There was an obvious bias. If only religions were this tolerant and open minded as shown in the show. How much better the world could've been.
Were they scared of offending religious people? Because it feels like the story was about Tanrak choosing between getting ordained and Barth. Not about a gay guy struggling with his religious conditioning. You could put a woman in place of Barth and nothing would change. A straight man can be facing exactly the same problem, he could also feel torn between marrying and spending life with the woman he loves or becoming a priest. If any of you has watched UK dark comedy show Fleabag, you'd know.
Now I'm not saying stories should just be about queer people's struggles, hell every bl out there is about gay people just living and doing their thing and I enjoy that, everyone deserves a normal life. But this topic was supposed to be specifically about a queer person that was brought up with catholic values so why didn't we get a single scene where the bible teachings are shown against his desires? There were some moments when he is getting attracted to Barth but after that, nothing. Wasn't he supposed to be cornered by homophobic religious people? Literally not a single person objected to Tanrak's sexuality. They did not show how religion affects queer people it was just a personal journey of a boy who just happens to be also gay and whether he should become a priest or marry his partner. There weren't specific struggles of the lgbtq+ community except the parts when Barth's dad was being an asshole to him, but he was an asshole in general. Maybe I expected a totally different plot. My bad.
