I’ve come with a HUGE review of this great drama… If reading someone’s review makes you want to pull your hair out, that’s not my fault. 😂 But I wrote this review purely because I needed to dissect the drama from my own perspective. My POV may match with some of you and may completely differ from others. Please don’t attack me over it. 🥹
Trauma: The Early Spring
Honestly, instead of The Early Spring, this drama should have been called The Early Breakup and Patch-Up. I’ve watched A LOT of Chinese dramas in my life, but rarely have the main leads made me so frustrated that I wanted to pull my hair out. At the same time, I enjoyed the drama a LOT. So, from the very first episode, I’m writing everything from my own POV because I won’t have peace until I get this out. 😭

In the very first episode, 22-year-old Shang Zhitao, who comes from Harbin, arrives in Beijing for a job. She has an interview at Lime Advertising Company. Right at the entrance, Zhitao’s eyes get stuck on the handsome Luan Nian. She keeps staring at him for as long as she can see him from behind. Basically, it was love—or rather, a crush—at first sight. Luan notices it too, although we only find that out around episodes 19–20.
But Luan is very hot-tempered and kind of weird. That’s how everyone describes him. He rejects Zhitao at first, but later HR Manager Tracy hires her anyway. From her very first day, Luan keeps telling Zhitao, “You won’t survive in this company. You’re not good enough.” Zhitao is extremely stubborn too, and she becomes determined to prove herself.
Luan is very straightforward, so speaking bluntly to people’s faces is just his nature. I don’t know if that’s necessarily a bad thing, but personally, I didn’t find it that bad because most of the things he said were actually true.
Eventually, Luan falls for Zhitao. At first, I wouldn’t even call it love—it felt more like attraction. On Zhitao’s very first day, Luan drives her home, which already proves that he wanted something to happen between them. Meanwhile, Zhitao was simply trying to survive at that point.
In episode 3, Zhitao gets stranded in a remote mountainous area because of work. In the middle of the night, Luan drives out to look for her. Literally, he keeps searching until he finds her. Luan is the kind of person who shows through his actions how caring he actually is deep down.
He didn’t go looking for Zhitao merely because she was his subordinate. He genuinely worried about her because Zhitao was inexperienced and vulnerable, and Luan had wanted to protect her from the very beginning.
That night, Luan nearly dies while trying to save Zhitao. Eventually, Zhitao finds him. And when Luan applies medicine to her hands and feet in the middle of that dark forest, that poor man completely falls for her. 😭
Zhitao was always afraid of making mistakes because her boss constantly told her that she wasn’t perfect. So, at that point, instead of falling in love with her boss, she was more focused on simply trying not to make mistakes.
Then comes episode 5. Zhitao gets drunk, and Luan sees her at a bar with another guy. He gets jealous, takes Zhitao home, and that day Zhitao tells him, “I saved you that day. If we were living in ancient times, you would have had to marry me.”
That one sentence completely messes with Luan’s head. 😂 Maybe that was the moment he thought, Hey, maybe we can actually take this somewhere.
Luan asks Flora (Zhitao), “Are you single? Then maybe we can give this a try?”
And BOOM. That’s where it all begins.
After that, whenever they meet, it’s basically just kissing. 😑
Flora completely melts into Luan without thinking things through. And honestly, I think that was one of Flora’s biggest mistakes. Some kind of cosmic spell must have possessed her that day because she got completely entangled with Luan.
And thus begins their situationship.
Even then, it didn’t feel like a proper relationship to me because Flora herself wasn’t comfortable introducing Luan as her boyfriend. And because Flora didn’t want it, Luan never made the relationship public either.
As time passes, we see that Luan still talks to Flora the same way he always did. But now Flora can no longer accept his words the way she used to.
Before getting close to Luan, whatever he said felt like a lesson to Flora. But once she became emotionally involved with him, naturally, she wanted him to be softer, speak more gently, compliment her, and treat her differently.
But Luan simply doesn’t know how to speak sweetly.
And THAT is where their serious problems begin.
Now let’s talk about Luan.
One day, Luan scolds Flora because she makes a mistake on a company poster. But this is strictly a work-related issue. Flora made a pretty serious mistake, and Luan reprimanded her for it. She was also punished by not receiving a promotion for six months.
Honestly, if someone else had been in Flora’s position, Luan probably would have done the exact same thing.
The problem is that Flora gets hurt because she expects Luan to treat her a little differently or show her some special consideration. At the same time, she doesn’t actually want him to give her special treatment just because she’s his girlfriend.
So she gets upset and becomes completely delusional about the whole thing. 😑
But honestly, I think Luan was right in that situation. Maybe what Flora actually wanted that day was some emotional comfort from her boyfriend.
And then Flora’s feelings start changing. She becomes more and more insecure. She starts feeling like she isn’t good enough.
But if they fight in the morning, by the afternoon they’re already back in each other’s arms.
Fine.
BUT…
Whenever Luan scolds Flora about something, he doesn’t hold onto it afterward. But Flora keeps dwelling on it and doesn’t even tell Luan what actually hurt her.
BRO, Luan isn’t God. 😭 How is he supposed to know what’s going on inside her head if she never tells him?
Then Luan apologizes again and takes Flora to the mountains. He has prioritized Flora from the very beginning, which is why he takes her to the place where he wants to build a café/restaurant. He even wants Flora to choose the location herself.
That’s how much of a priority she was to him.
But even there, Flora is still confused about whether Luan actually cares about her.
Girl… 😑
She is STILL insecure.
Another day, Flora gets into trouble with her rental agency. The moment Luan finds out, he immediately takes all the necessary steps to help her.
But Flora never even tells him about the problem.
Luan finds out from Lumi, which is actually humiliating for him because he was the LAST person to know.
Naturally, Luan asks, “Flora, do you actually consider me your boyfriend?”
Flora doesn’t, which is why she never tells Luan anything about her life. He doesn’t know about any of her problems.
Meanwhile, Luan has already started trying to improve himself and figure out how he can treat Flora better.
But Flora is still just as insecure at 26 as she was at 22.
Whenever Luan speaks to Flora a little too directly, Flora immediately breaks up with him for no reason.
At one point, Flora spends a long time away working with Donny. Donny harasses her there, and she doesn’t tell Luan about that either.
BRO.
At work, Luan is your boss. But personally, he’s your boyfriend. He has the right to know what’s happening to you.
Flora handles everything herself but doesn’t tell Luan even once.
And Luan gets extremely hurt by it.
But if he says anything because he’s hurt, THAT becomes a problem too. 😑
Meanwhile, the breakup-patch-up cycle just keeps going.
And every single time, Flora is the one who initiates the breakup.
She makes huge decisions over tiny things. She gets angry easily and even joins Alex’s team out of frustration. 😑
Then Alex wants to take Flora away, and another mess begins.
Luan asks her two or three times whether Alex has said anything to her.
Flora basically puts tape over her mouth.
“Nope. I’m not saying a single word.” 🙂
So Luan starts thinking that maybe Flora is actually going to leave.
And then he starts making assumptions and getting angry on his own.
Here, Luan was definitely at fault. There was no reason for him to assume so much without actually knowing what was happening.
And BOOM.
Another serious breakup.
Then—back into each other’s arms. 🤣
Meanwhile, Luan is suffering because he has genuinely fallen in love with Flora.
He would look at the little notes on Flora’s desk and the things she wrote in her diary and quietly admire her.
But one of the reasons for Luan’s jealousy was Flora’s roommate, Sun Yuanzhu.
He saw them together in the rain one day, and later got angry when Sun sent flowers.
Luan was definitely possessive in many ways.
And yes, THAT is painful for Flora—and honestly, for any woman.
Every woman has the right to live her own life the way she wants.
But overall, Luan’s biggest issue was always the men around Flora.
Well… he’s a man. Problems are bound to happen. 😑
But Flora never actually explains things to Luan. She never tries to understand the deeper reason behind his anger or hurt.
Luan is basically poisonous whenever he opens his mouth. 😂
So eventually, Flora decides she’s going to work somewhere around Tibet instead.
And Luan’s rough behavior is partly responsible for that decision.
But WHY was Luan angry?
Because Flora contacted her ex, hugged him, went out to eat with him, etc.
Of course Luan would be angry after seeing all of that.
And Flora didn’t even introduce Luan as her boyfriend in front of her ex.
YEARS have passed, and Flora STILL won’t introduce Luan as her boyfriend in front of anyone.
Meanwhile, Luan openly tells his family that he has a girlfriend. He takes Flora around his friends. He takes care of Flora’s dog like it’s his own.
And none of that seems to mean anything to Flora.
Then Flora comes back after talking to her ex and asks Luan, “Will you marry me?”
And Luan, in the heat of the moment, says that he had never even thought about it.
🤣
These two are the definition of a real-life toxic situationship couple.
Whatever could have been solved by simply TALKING, they just refuse to talk about it. 🤣
Then Flora leaves Luan for a long time.
One of Flora’s strongest qualities is actually her ability to walk away.
She basically has this attitude of:
If you want to stay, stay. If you want to leave, then leave. 😑
Like, even if nobody stayed in her life, it wouldn’t make that much difference to her.
That’s why Flora could repeatedly leave Luan and still live on her own, while Luan couldn’t.
Luan kept chasing the relationship.
And THAT is why this poor man is the loser here.
He has poison on his tongue but a whole box of honey hidden inside his heart. 😂
Going back to Flora and apologizing has practically become a habit for him because he genuinely wants to save the relationship.
Honestly, he was the one carrying this relationship most of the time.
Then one day, Luan sees Flora being hugged by her roommate.
Of course Luan feels hurt.
Before going to the US, he travels all the way to the Northeast just to see Flora one last time, and what does he see when he gets there?
THAT.
So the poor guy just leaves heartbroken.
Later, when he tries to talk to Flora about it, Flora immediately gets angry.
And once again, she decides she doesn’t want the relationship. 😑
Then Sun Yuanzhu dies.
And Flora doesn’t even tell Luan.
If a relationship is already breaking down because of misunderstandings, both people should make an effort to clear things up.
Yes, Luan is short-tempered, but he isn’t stupid or narrow-minded. If Flora had explained things to him, he would have understood.
Flora never once took the initiative to clarify anything with Luan.
Meanwhile, Luan kept breaking himself apart trying to resolve their problems.
Anything happens to Flora?
BREAK UP. 😑
If you communicate this badly, then honestly, why even get into a relationship?
I know it may seem like I’m blaming everything on Flora.
And yes, I kind of am. 😂
Because Flora isn’t completely innocent either.
She never clearly tells Luan where her problems are coming from.
She’s so emotionally detached that she can abandon a position she worked years to earn in an instant, and she can do the same thing with Luan.
Flora is career-oriented, and that’s completely fine.
But the way she treats Luan? He simply doesn’t deserve that.
What did Luan NOT give her?
What exactly did Luan do that was such a huge unforgivable sin?
Yet Flora always thought Luan was a red flag.
“He hangs around girls.”
That’s how she saw him.
But she never really noticed his efforts.
I was extremely angry at Flora around episode 18, and episodes 20–24 made it even harder to tolerate her. 😑
Flora’s love simply didn’t have the same depth.
You can see Luan’s love just by looking into his eyes.
At one point, Luan’s entire life basically revolved around Flora.
He kept lowering himself for her until he had almost no self-respect left.
When Luan first went to save Flora on that mountain road, he even says in the final episode that Flora saved him.
But Flora never once brought up the fact that Luan risked his life for her that day.
And back then, they weren’t even in love.
Flora was ungrateful.
Luan trained her and guided her, yet apart from occasionally expressing gratitude, we barely saw her truly appreciate everything he did for her.
Even when Flora moved to Axel’s team, Luan never abandoned her.
In the end, Flora simply misunderstood Luan.
Luan gave her a fair score, but Flora didn’t trust him even a little.
After being together for SIX YEARS, if you still don’t have even the slightest trust in your partner, then what’s the point?
Honestly, Flora didn’t need the relationship in the first place.
She went back to Harbin.
And I actually found it incredibly strong how effortlessly she was able to leave everything behind.
BUT…
My blood pressure went up when Luan started begging and chasing after her. 😑
Flora had no problem living without Luan, so what was the need for Luan to go completely mad?
Why did he have to practically fall at her feet just to stay with her?
Flora was like, “I’m not staying.”
But Luan still kept begging. 😤
That part was just too much.
Although one line from Luan genuinely broke my heart:
“Even the dog misses me more than you do. You’re worse than the dog.”
😭
Flora was absolutely heartless.
And then even Flora’s parents didn’t treat Luan very well.
Luan had that whole boss-like aura, but neither Flora nor her parents seemed to value it at all.
Nobody gave this man any importance. 😭
Meanwhile, Luan went to Switzerland and kept thinking about Flora, then returned within a single day.
He treated Flora nicely in front of his girlfriend/female friend.
But Flora went on a trip with her friends and didn’t miss Luan even once.
Even while staying in the Northeast, the drama never once showed Flora genuinely missing Luan.
Whatever crying she did was mostly because of her own thoughts.
She thinks.
She overthinks.
She cries.
That’s it. 😑
Luan prioritized her so much, yet one sentence from him was enough to make her forget everything else.
Luan seriously scolded Flora maybe three times throughout the drama, and honestly, he was right every single time.
But Flora never once properly explained herself or even tried to understand Luan.
And the biggest thing is—
Jing Boran’s performance as Luan was absolutely phenomenal.
But Sun Qian’s acting had a noticeable gap.
Opposite such a versatile actor like Jing Boran, Sun Qian simply wasn’t able to match his level of performance.
Her acting didn’t captivate me.
Instead, at many points, it genuinely annoyed me.
At the end, when Luan stood there in the snowfall, you could understand his pain just by looking at his eyes.
Flora may not understand Luan, but her own eyes and expressions should have shown that she still loved him.
Yet I didn’t see that at all.
Sun Qian’s eyes simply don’t speak the way Jing Boran’s eyes do.
There was no depth of emotion in her eyes.
At the museum, Luan did so much for her. Flora didn’t have to say anything, but her eyes and facial expressions should have told the story.
Instead, it felt like Luan was being forced to stand there and all of those emotional moments were being forced onto the audience too.
Meanwhile, I absolutely loved Lumi’s acting.
Sun Yu was also very mature.
Luan’s friends were great too.
And BRO—
THE DOG WAS THE BEST CHARACTER. 😭🤣
Overall, the drama gave me SO many butterflies in the beginning, but by the end, it just made me frustrated.
Honestly, I was praying with all my heart for them to have a sad ending.
I still don’t understand why they had to reunite. 😑
And the way they made Luan cry in front of his friends genuinely hurt me.
Flora could have lived perfectly fine without Luan.
There was no need to drag Luan down THAT much.
The man deserved at least a little self-respect.
But no.
By the end, this man literally became a driver. 😑
He even wanted to quit his job.

Because Flora isn’t completely innocent either.
She never clearly tells Luan where her problems are coming from.
She’s so emotionally detached that she can abandon a position she worked years to earn in an instant, and she can do the same thing with Luan.
Flora is career-oriented, and that’s completely fine.
But the way she treats Luan? He simply doesn’t deserve that.
What did Luan NOT give her?
What exactly did Luan do that was such a huge unforgivable sin?
Yet Flora always thought Luan was a red flag.
“He hangs around girls.”
That’s how she saw him.
But she never really noticed his efforts.
I was extremely angry at Flora around episode 18, and episodes 20–24 made it even harder to tolerate her. 😑
Flora’s love simply didn’t have the same depth.
You can see Luan’s love just by looking into his eyes.
At one point, Luan’s entire life basically revolved around Flora.
He kept lowering himself for her until he had almost no self-respect left.
When Luan first went to save Flora on that mountain road, he even says in the final episode that Flora saved him.
But Flora never once brought up the fact that Luan risked his life for her that day.
And back then, they weren’t even in love.
Flora was ungrateful.
Luan trained her and guided her, yet apart from occasionally expressing gratitude, we barely saw her truly appreciate everything he did for her.
Even when Flora moved to Axel’s team, Luan never abandoned her.
In the end, Flora simply misunderstood Luan.
Luan gave her a fair score, but Flora didn’t trust him even a little.
After being together for SIX YEARS, if you still don’t have even the slightest trust in your partner, then what’s the point?
Honestly, Flora didn’t need the relationship in the first place.
She went back to Harbin.
And I actually found it incredibly strong how effortlessly she was able to leave everything behind.
BUT…
My blood pressure went up when Luan started begging and chasing after her. 😑
Flora had no problem living without Luan, so what was the need for Luan to go completely mad?
Why did he have to practically fall at her feet just to stay with her?
Flora was like, “I’m not staying.”
But Luan still kept begging. 😤
That part was just too much.
Although one line from Luan genuinely broke my heart:
“Even the dog misses me more than you do. You’re worse than the dog.”
😭
Flora was absolutely heartless.
And then even Flora’s parents didn’t treat Luan very well.
Luan had that whole boss-like aura, but neither Flora nor her parents seemed to value it at all.
Nobody gave this man any importance. 😭
Meanwhile, Luan went to Switzerland and kept thinking about Flora, then returned within a single day.
He treated Flora nicely in front of his girlfriend/female friend.
But Flora went on a trip with her friends and didn’t miss Luan even once.
Even while staying in the Northeast, the drama never once showed Flora genuinely missing Luan.
Whatever crying she did was mostly because of her own thoughts.
She thinks.
She overthinks.
She cries.
That’s it. 😑
Luan prioritized her so much, yet one sentence from him was enough to make her forget everything else.
Luan seriously scolded Flora maybe three times throughout the drama, and honestly, he was right every single time.
But Flora never once properly explained herself or even tried to understand Luan.
And the biggest thing is—
Jing Boran’s performance as Luan was absolutely phenomenal.
But Sun Qian’s acting had a noticeable gap.
Opposite such a versatile actor like Jing Boran, Sun Qian simply wasn’t able to match his level of performance.
Her acting didn’t captivate me.
Instead, at many points, it genuinely annoyed me.
At the end, when Luan stood there in the snowfall, you could understand his pain just by looking at his eyes.
Flora may not understand Luan, but her own eyes and expressions should have shown that she still loved him.
Yet I didn’t see that at all.
Sun Qian’s eyes simply don’t speak the way Jing Boran’s eyes do.
There was no depth of emotion in her eyes.
At the museum, Luan did so much for her. Flora didn’t have to say anything, but her eyes and facial expressions should have told the story.
Instead, it felt like Luan was being forced to stand there and all of those emotional moments were being forced onto the audience too.
Meanwhile, I absolutely loved Lumi’s acting.
Sun Yu was also very mature.
Luan’s friends were great too.
And BRO—
THE DOG WAS THE BEST CHARACTER. 😭🤣
Overall, the drama gave me SO many butterflies in the beginning, but by the end, it just made me frustrated.
Honestly, I was praying with all my heart for them to have a sad ending.
I still don’t understand why they had to reunite. 😑
And the way they made Luan cry in front of his friends genuinely hurt me.
Flora could have lived perfectly fine without Luan.
There was no need to drag Luan down THAT much.
The man deserved at least a little self-respect.
But no.
By the end, this man literally became a driver. 😑
He even wanted to quit his job.
WHERE DOES THIS MAN GET THIS LEVEL OF MADNESS FROM? 😑
However, there is ONE thing I genuinely loved.
At the beginning of the drama, Luan said:
“I only deal with jerks.”
And Flora replied that she would become one too.
And in the end…
Flora really did become one. 🤣
That’s why, at the end, Luan said:
“Two jerks, perfect match.” 🫶
And honestly?
He wasn’t wrong. 😂
