And on some level that was still there. It was still a romance, just cause it didn’t follow the general story telling of oh they kiss and get together doesn’t mean its not a romance, what is romance if not a deep affection and devotion for one another, take radio silence by Alice oseman for instance, the main characters’ devotion to one another was always their priority and the primary relationship in their lives. But again we all have our own views, according to me i still think Netflix delivered what they promised. Now we will probably never know what they exactly meant when they said “soulful romance” cause for me i think ryu and johan did have a soulful romance. But if Netflix truly meant romance in the general they will kiss sense and then didn’t deliver….well fuck them then.
Can't help notice that with the het couple they show a confession right away. And sure we don't see them kissing…

I think the point of this story is that soul mates do not need to be only the romantic kind and love between 2 queer men does not always have to end up with them getting together. A soul mate can come in many different forms and so can love. Like i have a friend who i love more than anyone else in the world, i would die for this person and hope that if im ever on my death bed shes the one holding my hand. When im sad i go to her, when im happy i go to her, when i need support i go to her. I will time and again choose her over everyone else probably. I have told her before that she is my soul mate, but i still date other people and so does she, but that doesn’t diminish the love we have for each other. Other would maybe categorise her as my best friend which she is but at the same time it feels too immature a word to describe our relationship cause its a lot more that just that, but its also not a romantic love. And i think that’s what these guys had. 2 broken men who came together and heal each other, who will stand by each other always, who will put each other first always, who love each other so much that the word ‘friends’ just doesn’t feel enough. Some one can be your other half without being your romantic partner. And while i genuinely thought this was going to be a BL (cause its on a goddamn Japanese BL master list on here) which is why i watched it in the first place, i just couldn’t get annoyed with any part of this show because i have someone like that in my life, i have a soulmate who isn’t a romantic partner and that sort of a relationship isn’t portrayed much in shows and movies. So I couldn’t help but fall in love with ryu and johan and this series. The only thing that annoyed me was how much this show made me cry, but i cried because it was oh so good and i dont like crying so i always get annoyed whenever i cry. But again it’s all subjective, everyone has their own preferences and views and opinions about things and that’s what makes the world such a fun place. So you are definitely allowed to be annoyed at the story. Anyways, while i might not agree with your view i definitely understand it. I hope you can understand what I’ve tried to explain as well.
