I think it's a bit of both. Looking at Choi Young Joon's filmography, he's often cast as police officers, detectives, military officers, executives, and other professional figures because he has the kind of presence that makes those roles feel credible. That said, I wouldn't call him limited or purely typecast. He's actually a very versatile actor who can completely change the vibe of a character depending on the role. A good example is Bang Ho-sik in Our Blues, which feels very different from the authoritative or professional characters he often plays. In fact, I've seen quite a few viewers realize only later that it was the same actor because he disappears into his roles so well. I remember reading an interview where a director mentioned that he has the right presence for professional roles, but I think his range is often overlooked because those roles just happen to be the ones he's most frequently offered.
