I think there might be a bit of a misunderstanding here. When I said people need to 'calm down,' it was just a casual way of saying we should look at the series objectively as its own medium, which can definitely have its own changes. It wasn't an attempt to silence anyone or attack manhwa fans. Sharing my perspective is exactly what a comment section is for, and it doesn't mean I'm stopping others from having their own opinions. In fact, feel free to share your own thoughts in a separate comment; that’s exactly what MyDramaList is for. Clearly, we have different views on what makes a good adaptation. I prefer a version that adjusts well to the pacing of a TV show, while you prefer a strictly faithful retelling of the book. But honestly, in my opinion, that defeats the purpose a bit, if that were the case, it would be better to just read the manhwa, an adaptation wouldn't even be necessary, and the word 'adaptation' itself would lose its meaning. But I respect your opinion. Both viewpoints can coexist. Let's just agree to disagree and enjoy the rest of the series in our own ways! Of course, if you think the series is that bad, I'd encourage you to rethink whether it's worth continuing to watch it just to get stressed out. Anyway, I hope we both enjoy the remaining episodes!
Your opinion is valid. However, how can a character, Jay, who is listed as a main one, get at most 5 minutes screen…
Actually, they’ve added more genuine romance scenes between Jay and Sun than there are in the manhwa. In my opinion, the "romance" scenes in the manhwa feel a bit more forced, whereas in the adaptation, they come across as much more natural and subtle. I wouldn't really worry about people "forgetting Jay" that's definitely not happening! Sun is the main protagonist of Payback, and Jay is the second main character, which is noticeable even in the manhwa. In fact, in the final chapter of the manhwa, Jay doesn't even appear, only Yoohan does. But I completely understand your perspective 🩷

Honestly, it’s an adaptation, so it makes total sense that they’d cut out unnecessary details and add new things to give it more depth. An adaptation needs to stand on its own and work independently from the original source, and Payback does that perfectly. We can't really expect the story to focus purely on Jay or JaySun, especially since the manhwa itself centers on Yoohan for most of the time anyway. The adaptation isn't poorly written, it's completely consistent with what the show is trying to do.
I’ve read the manhwa just as much as you have, so I’m just giving my opinion with that context in mind. There’s a difference between sharing a perspective and just nitpicking to find reasons to criticize it. Like I said, the story definitely moves forward the Sun from the beginning is not even 1% like the Sun we have now. The reality is that, yeah, some people genuinely seem to be rooting for a bad ending, and you can see that pretty clearly just by scrolling through the comments here.
I strongly disagree with people who say that three episodes aren't enough. The main story (disregarding extra episodes) has around 95 chapters, and easily 10 of those 95 could be cut if there weren't NC scenes and fillers. In today's episode, the story clearly went up to chapter 50, and in the next episode, you can see that the series will go up to chapter 78/79. This is all because the episodes' duration was significant (episode 7 was over 1 hour and 10 minutes). In other words, it's perfectly adequate for the presentation. I think the manhwa fans need to calm down a bit, because what's left of the story literally fits into 3 episodes.
Another thing, I see many people saying that the story has no emotion whatsoever and doesn't move forward, and honestly, that kind of review is a disservice. How can you see a scene like Sky's today and say that the series has no emotion at all?
It seems some people here are just hoping for a bad ending to Payback and complaining without a second thought about a VERY WELL-MADE production.
Anyway, it's the first time I've written a review, so I don't know how people react to different opinions here... you don't have to agree with me, I just ask that you disagree without being offensive, please!
In any case, I'm looking forward to next Saturday!
