We truly can't have good things I swear😭 If only we could have the drama as it was filmed without the choppings, it could be legendary. The cut leaks i saw were so wholesome and some were so important even, I don't understand why those were cut. They really are so paranoid when there's no romance to act as buffer in between. It gives some safety message or sth that the guys aren't the most important thing to each other so they can act bromantic in peace 😑

No bromance is as good as southern archives🤣😭 it broke my 2 year streak of being unable to watch any drama to completion. The acting, chemistry and atmospheric realism is top notch. I'm obsessed with their dynamic, it's unparalleled. Like you would find many people saying objectively it's a 8/10 show but heart says 12/10 😂🤣 It's THAT good and totally worth it.
The flaws are obvious but the pros override them imo and left me wanting more. They intentionally left the ending like that so that they could do more with it. They had filmed 3 different endings but gave the worst one, otherwise the final douban rating would’ve been better too. It had actually opened at 8.1 and then fell to 6.7 later due to all the cuts hampering logical consistency and normal progression and ofc, that ending. And you know douban is notoriously hawk eyed in terms of rating specially for dmbj franchises because of all the expectations that come with it. So considering all that and the lack of promotions it still did really well.
As for him being dead in the source, there are actually narrative gaps and unreliable narration in the book and the author left quite a few things out. So there's a lot of room for expansion. He said the drama doesn't break the books logic and he can explain it lmaoo.
He also said he doesn't want to give the south seas characters a bad ending. I'll also have you know that there was no body or funeral shown for him in the drama. If you watch it you will understand better. I don't wanna say too many things and spoil the whole thing in case you do end up watching. Just watch the first 5 episodes and see if you like it. If you do, I can send you the extra chapter where wu xie asks haiyan about haixia in the modern time.
Name some bromance shows you like so I can recommend some. Dmbj is quite different from the rest and I don't know your tastes 😅😆

I don't understand why censorship is after Archives😭 it's not even bl. They cut so much on the first season already, wym they might not approve the project😭 It was so well received despite the lack of promotions and censorship.

Yeah they don't, that's why they got chopped in half. Even staring scenes, bonding moments or simple hugs didn't pass censorship but the ep2 bath scene here passed easily.
You must've noticed how mystic nine episodes are really long right? Not much cutting in there, multiple 50+mins eps even. Meanwhile southern archives had several episodes as short as 25 or 23 mins coz of the massive amounts of cuts when it should've been 45 mins per episodes.
Haixia was MIA for half the show and the 2 had really less time together. They kept getting separated and stayed that way for over 80% of the show, many of their scenes together are gone.
Archives was also quickly airdropped and cleared off the shelf coz of frequently getting postponed. It suffered a lot to pass, some of which probably wouldn't have happened if one or both had a love interest. It could've done way better if not for all that😞

Nooo pls whyy😭 do try watching pls😭 omg i will forever hate author for this, so many people are refusing to watch such peak relationship just coz of the ending it's not fairrr😭 southern anecdotes has the best and strongest bromance in the last 2+ years imo, it's such a shame it had to deal with such severe nonsensical censorship and awful editing along with that ending, I'll never understand why they shot themselves on the foot this way😡 despite all that it's still 100% worth watching and I have faith it will get another season and undo that ending 🙏
