I think he cannot express his feelings well, their parents died when young. Think about the car purchase, or the birthday present. He hides away, closing in. He needs a lot of 'cuddling'. Also, I think he thinks Sen Mo is still in love with Zhou Yang.

I think it could be off-putting, like fe I have dropped Double Helix because of this. I have almost did not watch this series after the trailer but than I had nothing better to do on the Monday after the show aired. And boy I am glad I did. I very much recommend to read it as well. I will read it again definitely. The show is very true to the novel and very tasteful.

Hey, so Mr Ji when prior investigated Shen Mo, got attracted to him. The little passport photo will be
important later.
You can say Mr Ji felt guilty but also felt the attraction and could not stay away from Shen Mo after the abduction. Shen Mo was in a terrible state, not eating ,etc. Mr Ji went back to see him, to return Shen Mo's watch and found out that Shen Mo is days away from dying basically. Shen Mo thought Mr Ji is Zhen Young. Mr Ji told him he is not, but this was the only way to save him. Then he fell hard for Shen Mo, even though he knew this is not right. He helped Shen Mo a lot, got him a job, paid for his surgery
to get his hand back working.
They became happy together, but than Shen Mo started to remember and realised he is not Zhen Young. Shen Mo wanted to try to find out the truth, fell done some stairs and forgot about Mr Ji/ Zhen Young.
They did the contract afterwards. So, not great but lot of care and affection. Also, Anan asks in the hospital Mr Ji to let Shen Mo go to be happy with Zhen Young, and he obeys her, although Shen Mo doesn't want that anymore, because he is already in love with Mr Ji as well. Definitely watch it. It is great!
