Totally on point. I don’t really like to throw a bad shade on someone else to justify my fav. I totally understand different preferences and difference of opinion but outright calling someone that they can’t act is just wrong for me. I mean you are right, people aren’t fool to watch and like him again and again.

I just worry sometimes as fanatics take it too far sometimes, i know numerous actors who get affected and their careers got affected by this online shading. But I guess, as you all are saying, need to stop paying heed to such opinions.

Episode 19, he was just aura farming. I felt like slashing the negativity in the same manner for him tho. 🤣

I can say for the bad scripts and maybe roles where his acting felt unnatural. But roles like AMA, Eight Hundred, Wonderland of love, As beautiful as you, he did fit the screen.

He was anyway looking for roles other that idol romance, he wanted dark characters to play. I think this one and Eight hundred are first roles of that characterisation and he is doing really good as far as I can say.

Ahh!!! It’s frustrating to come across such opinions. I am with you btw, I have watched almost everything he is casted in and it never felt like he can’t act or is not delivering the portrayal. Some scripts can be bad, definitely yes, but I have seen many stone faced or rather blank canvas faces appreciated beyond my understanding.

I’m really enjoying the drama, and honestly, Xu Kai’s charisma is such a treat to watch. But I do have a question about something I’ve been noticing on Reddit.

I came across a Reddit post about actors whose dramas people avoid because they feel the actor “can’t act,” and I was genuinely surprised, and admittedly a little hurt, to see Xu Kai’s picture as the first one, followed by comments agreeing that his acting is bland or average. I know everyone is entitled to their opinion, but seeing a post like that while his drama is currently airing just felt a little weird.

What also surprises me is that Xu Kai is rarely discussed on Reddit. He was praised for his performance in The Eight Hundred, but there was barely any discussion around it. Even on MDL, I sometimes come across what feels like unnecessary negativity toward him.

So, am I being overprotective because I like him? Maybe. But I genuinely don’t understand the “he can’t act” take. He has range, and I think he’s clearly capable and good at what he does.

Is there some particular negativity or perception around Xu Kai that I’m missing? And if so, where does it come from?

I love watching Xu Kai, it’s not about his looks but I appreciate his versatility in acting as well. His comic timing and expressions in Arsenal Military Academy and few other dramas, his stoic yet sharp approach in As beautiful as you, his romantic line delivery, his dark and kinda grey acting in Eight Hundred. He is really good! but I don’t get it why he is utilised as an eye candy only. Why the production teams and directors do it???

I get it in Chinese industry he is not a popular star or A lister but he still can pull an audience. I use Reddit a lot and I have seen there is no conversation about him whether negative or positive. And Reddit users do not even mention him while talking about Chinese male actors. I get it, sure, he is not popular as the current popular but he is not someone who is bad and doesn’t know what he is into. He has done good work. it doesn’t make sense to me.

Drama team mistreated him?? Did I miss something?
