On Don't Be Too Emotional 6 days ago
Honestly, I have mixed feelings about Don’t Be Too Emotional.I really wanted to love this series because the original pilot had me SO interested. The atmosphere was darker, mysterious, and felt like it was building toward something unique. The whole imagery surrounding P’Jane, especially the black wings and the “demon”/supernatural feeling, made the series stand out from the usual BLs.But after watching the actual series, I can’t help but feel that something happened between the pilot/trailer and the final version. The biggest problem for me is the pacing and editing. Some scenes feel like they are jumping from one major event to another without enough transition. There are moments where I literally think, “Wait… how did we get here already?” 😭 The emotional development sometimes feels rushed because the scenes that should connect the characters’ actions and feelings don’t seem to have enough room to breathe. And this is why I keep wondering if some scenes were reshot, replaced, heavily re-edited, or simply cut during post-production. I’m NOT saying this is confirmed because I haven’t seen an official statement from the production team. But when you compare the pilot/promotional material with the aired series, there are noticeable differences in tone, presentation, and even some of the elements that initially made the story feel special. What’s frustrating is that I don’t necessarily think the problem is the story itself. The concept is actually interesting. The actors have chemistry, the production looks good, and P’Jane is still a fascinating character. But I feel like we’re missing some of the connective scenes that would have made the story flow naturally. The pilot made me expect a dark, mysterious, almost supernatural psychological BL. The final series feels much more grounded, and that’s not necessarily bad—but the transition between those two versions feels incomplete. For me, the series doesn’t feel badly filmed; it feels heavily edited. And sometimes I can feel the editing more than I can feel the story.I still appreciate the cast and the effort behind the production, but I can’t ignore the feeling that there is a longer or different version of this story somewhere in the footage that we’re not seeing.Maybe I’m wrong, but if other viewers also felt that the series is moving too fast and that some scenes seem to be missing, then I don’t think we’re imagining it.Great concept. Great chemistry. Beautiful production. But the pacing and editing are seriously holding the story back. And honestly… after seeing that pilot, I want the version of Don’t Be Too Emotional that they originally made us believe we were going to watch. 😭
