frustrated by what it could have been

I am very torn to rate this show and I am doing it without having read any review or comment.sorry in advance for the criticism, I’m not trying to hurt anyone’s feelings

Pros: the story itself, the OST, the supporting characters and storylines, the way the show has been directed with some very modern takes on intimacy (compared to usual shows) .

and for me what could have been a 10/10: the ML and the actor. the ML himself is ridiculously attractive and has an amazing development arc as a character, with so different phases where you see the walls going down and the love building. so many times, he’s supposed to be the cold bad guy but I totally disagree, he might not have done all the perfect things but his bad guy label was very soon obsolete in the show. all this was sublimed by the actor himself whose acting range was just stunning. he led the show, and every scene where he was there was just so obviously bringing aura and layers and emotions.

now my biggest let down? the FL and the acting. first about the acting: I don’t know if it’s the comparison with the ML but there were so many times where she just looked like a deer surprised by flashlights, no variation, no range. the only time I felt it was better was during the road trip but after, we were back to monotone acting and resting face (even during the most romantic proposal ever? even when they reunite and she still looks away or shocked while she’s supposed to be a character who grew, a girlboss character and so on and I didn’t see that at all in the acting )

and then the FL herself. I almost throw my phone so many times while watching. she keeps hiding things (not telling your bf once that something happened once at early stage is okay but three times even after some years of relationship? not saying about having been attacked, the S.harassment that he has to learn about in the generic company email?, and that her roommate who was secretely not so secretely in love had passed away?) and then she’s pushing back the arguments about oh no but you’re only my boss/not from my world, you don’t help me and you’re cruel? she doesn’t even introduce him to his friends and parents.

I could forgive miscommunication and stupid moves in the early stage of the relationship and even some immaturity for someone in the early 20s. but after 7 years where she’s supposed to have become her best version and found herself? still inventing a fiance and other excuses, also, letting him in the freezing cold night and denying him to see his dog (not an animal person but that thing broke me!)?
I am very disappointed and gave her a chance so many times but even if the ML wasn’t perfect from the start, looking at the actions and the trust, I really think that the FL is the actual biggest red flag of both if I had to chose one. at the end, I was still swooning for the show when they got back together step by step and for the proposal scene but I was really frustrated that the acting and the actions of the FL didn’t give me anything except asymmetry with the ML/other actor.
to clarify: I didn’t want a sub FL that would have stayed forever at the company and said nothing. I liked that she went exploring things for her career experience and that she even ended by launching her own company. but it gave me still so much immaturity and no trust, no vulnerability towards the ML and no idea that she loved him.

I would have loved to see another version of the show with another FL character writing and arc and probably another acting style for the FL (this is not against the actress because maybe it was how the show was directed). in an alternative version, this could have easily been my fav show
