Nah, im already prepared for the worst. Im so used to it that i probably already became a xianxia Buddha or something :))))

I like xianxia genre but most of the times i get dissapointed by the results. The best chinese dramas ive watched are wuxia esp of 2000-10
or even older (the known epic ones) and contemporary ones either older or of our time. The quality of most of xianxia,esp when it comes to Youku productions, is really low. Kdramas have their trashy products-i mean who doesnt-and are often repetitive in stories and narration. But i think the xianxia genre is a treasure in terms of scripts-web novels-mythological stories etc and its such a waste of money, talented actors and stuff, to give such crappy productions. My standards are not that high, i mean i can handle a low budget production,or bad cgi, but e.g. in TTEOTM when i see the cake-looking makeup after hours of filming, or the wig glue on an actor's face or even his real hair underneath, then i go WHAT? really? you couldnt put a filter on these huge mistakes during post production? Thats overall my point

Its not a matter of length (though in China they recently changed the restrictions about length-now you rearly see projects over 60ep). Its a matter of good narration and good quality overall. Kdras and Jdramas are 1/3 length and they often achieve to tell a story successfully. The problem in many chinese productions is the high speed of filming (they take 2-6 months for filming such big projects) so the quality goes out of the window. Plus, they dont seem to really care about quality in many aspects. Every year they produce literally hundreds of dramas and only a little ammount of them are finally aired

Because sad endings cause the drama to be talked about for a much longer time than a good ending one. Especially in Xianxia genre, where fandoms are bigger than other genres. Plus, the 10 min bonus or special episode, at first (before leaked) is only shown by the official channel which need paid subscription. So people rush to pay to watch and there's quite a huge amount of maney for the channel. You could say that they abuse the audience to gain money.

I sound like Buddha or smthing but ive been through a LOT with chinese dramaland and their sadism, be it in wuxia/xianxia/historical. My list of worst of the worst endings is endless. And i dont even count the most addicted hopeless fandom of kdrama Moon lovers (which im not a part) but i really feel so sorry for them! But this time ive got a strategy: if they ll give us a bad ending, i ll go straight ahead and watch Love is Sweet. I deliberately save it to watch after TTEOTM :))))

Those who ve read the novel, say that there's the ultimate bad ending in the novel. I hope we wont have the same thing in the drama. But i keep my hopes low-i ll be fine as long if they end up together even after many years as immortals or i dont know with whatever losses but together. Fingers crossed

Im fine with twisted or bad or anything because i dont want relatable things when i watch or read something so it would be fine. I mean i dont necessarily want to approve of a hero or like him/her-on the contrary- i read/watch things even when i completely reject or even hate what a character does. Hm translation issues would really annoy me (talking about the novel) but for the rest im ok. I ll search a bit on google to see what i ll find. Thanks for the info!

Yeap i ve already read it and probably because of your comments about the novel, i will give it a try in the future. I so wanted to have that scene here but i guess it wouldnt pass censorship.
with the: "really mean-" i meant what you said above about the s*x scene as it was described in the novel, and his whole darker character. But you re right, people would freak out if the depiction in the drama was even darker.

She is paying description so she thinks she's entitled to censor everything.

Art products (of any kind and quality from low to high) have no obligation to form cultures. It is what it is. If an audience learns how to behave from shows/books/films/art in general, then its an audience that can easily be manipulated by literally anything and anyone.
Take your puritanism elsewhere and simply dont watch things that trigger you. Art shoud be free. Go blame Visconti, Bukowski, Nabokov, Marquis Sade etc.
People with basic education should not copy what they watch, and in any case if someone finds a "bad" thing relatable, then its already inside him/her.
