This story started good, yet as the show progressed (from about 60% of the series) the plot holes got worse and story writing got lazy. Such a shame for a series that started off amazing.
Yu Manyue (played by Tavia Cheung) appears to be a glamorous and skilled public relations expert, adept at handling crises, but behind her polished exterior lies a deeply tragic past. Eighteen years ago, she and her younger sister were assaulted by Jiang Jijun (played by Edward Ma), a wealthy third-generation heir, leading to a catastrophic upheaval in her family. This traumatic experience fueled Manyue’s vow for revenge. After silently enduring for eighteen years, she has finally succeeded in getting close to the Jiang family.
The synopsis seems similar to how several rural Chinese YouTubers (Li Ziqi, Dianxi Xiao Ge) pretty much put their rural life and products on the internet and rose to fame.
I guess people thought it would a good story for dramas
Honestly if I didn't know about the original novel and was also unaware of the censorship I'd probably argue that…
I didn't watch the drama, because I just couldn't work through it after watching the anime and reading the novel (and of course, RL people look different from animated/drawn characters, so I already had a certain image of them all) x'D
Although I didn't realise WWX's drama characteristics are different from the novel, I think his personality is still great., still the joker and all. ]]Hope you will read it! I even bought the novels in chinese to support the writer haha.

I really recommend you to read the novel! The story is great and is what made me fall in love with this 'franchise'. If you want to read a superb translation, you should look up 'exiled rebel scanlations'. They really did a good job translating the novel.
hey do you have some recommendations for someone who wants to start watching c-dramas like me?
I have one if you like suspense/thriller: "The Longest Day in Chang'an" ;) Its cinematography, soundtrack, acting, and story are all great! I couldn't stop watching once I started. Really an absolute favourite of mine.
I tried getting into C-Dramas a few times but just couldnt, maybe I picked some bad ones that arent a good starting…
